Following a successful start to its US operations in April, Icelandic carrier PLAY will launch its maiden flight from Boston today. Over the next year, the airline intends to transport over 1 million people to and from the United States, with flights to New York and Orlando slated to begin later this summer.

PLAY, an Icelandic low-cost airline, is ready to establish its second US destination, Boston Logan International Airport, following the successful launch of its Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) service in April (BOS).

Today, the carrier will launch its inaugural trip, Flight OG111, from Boston, followed by daily service between Boston and Keflavik-Reykjavik Airport (KEF).

Expanding our flights from Boston today will support travellers in the local market and surrounding cities, enabling them to pay less for their flights and more on the fun activities and excursions that make the trip memorable.”

The airline will have a gate ceremony for the debut service at 18:00 (ET). To greet the first travellers, CEO Birgir Jónsson and local politicians will be present.

PLAY’s A321neo fleet will fly the flights, which will include 192 seats in an all-economy configuration.

Boston is one of eight PLAY cities set to open in May. Lisbon, Stavanger, Trondheim, Malaga, Prague, Gothenburg, and Brussels are the others. This brings the overall number of destinations served by PLAY to 25.

PLAY now has two destinations in the United States, with New York and Orlando coming later this year. Flights will begin on June 9th from New York Stewart International Airport (SWF), with Orlando International Airport (MCO) following on September 30th.
