Air India Express Cabin Crew Member Arrested for Alleged Gold Smuggling

Date:

Recently, a cabin crew member from Air India Express was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for allegedly smuggling gold. The crew member was apprehended at the Mangaluru International Airport in Karnataka, India, after arriving from Dubai.

The DRI officials found that the crew member had concealed gold bars and coins weighing around 1.5 kgs in his baggage. The gold was valued at approximately Rs. 45 lakhs. The crew member had reportedly tried to smuggle the gold into India without paying any duty or taxes.

This is not the first time that an Air India Express crew member has been arrested for smuggling gold. In the past, several other crew members have been apprehended for similar offences. In fact, in 2017, two Air India Express crew members were arrested for attempting to smuggle gold bars worth Rs. 40 lakhs.

Smuggling of gold is a serious offence in India and is punishable by law. The government has taken a number of measures to curb gold smuggling, including increasing customs duty and introducing stricter regulations. In addition, the government has also set up a special task force to monitor gold smuggling activities.

The arrest of the Air India Express crew member is a reminder that gold smuggling is still a major problem in India. It is important for all citizens to be aware of the laws and regulations related to gold smuggling and to ensure that they are not involved in any illegal activities. Smuggling of gold not only affects the government’s revenue but also has an adverse effect on the economy.
