PewDiePie Leaves Blockchain-Based Streaming Platform, Dlive, for YouTube

Date:

PewDiePie, the largest single YouTuber in the world, is moving from the blockchain-based Dlive platform over to YouTube thanks to an exclusive live-streaming deal with the company.

Dlive, which signed the star on earlier last year, nailed a big deal at the time. Now, however, this blockchain platform will have to rely on other, smaller stars to make its push.

“YouTube has been my home for over a decade now and live streaming on the platform feels like a natural fit as I continue to look for new ways to create content and interact with fans worldwide,” PewDiePie said in a statement.

This is notable, considering streaming platforms are now signing deals to keep their top streamers from moving to other platforms. Spaces like Twitch and Mixer have brought on big stars, with the latter paying huge to acquire Ninja and Shroud for their platform.

However, one has to wonder how Dlive has benefitted from this, and if losing PewDiePie will cause significant damage to the platform’s popularity. The gaming scene hasn’t latched on to the platform as much as others, though it still sees close to 10 million visits a month according to SimilarWeb.

This might seem like a lot, but Twitch is close to 1 billion a month, dwarfing Dlive in comparison. That said, TRON recently acquired the platform, which could provide enough funding for it to survive.
