Democratic mayoral candidate Eric Adams made a bold promise for New Yorkers to make the city the new hub of cryptocurrencies, especially bitcoin.
In his speech, he interestingly challenged Miami for its current status as a crypto hub and vowed to “dethrone” the city and make New York the new center of cryptocurrencies.

Adams is currently competing against his Democratic fellows to be the party’s official mayoral candidate for New York. He currently leads with 31.7% on the first-place votes, but his ranking is not a guarantee that he will finally get the coveted party endorsement.
This is because of the primary’s ranked-choice voting system, which means that the process of tabulation must be done before an official winner is declared, which will be finished next month.
It is safe to say that whoever emerges as the Democratic party’s official mayoral candidate for New York will have a massive advantage to win because of the city’s left-leaning political demographics.
Fellow Bitcoin supporters
Adams is not a “lone wolf” in advocating cryptocurrency for New York. Andrew Yang, a fellow mayoral candidate, said that he is also inclined in transforming the city into the world’s center for bitcoin and cryptocurrency.
Yang eventually conceded in the race because of his meager 11.7% votes in the race, which puts him in fourth place.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is already priming his city to be a strong competitor in the crypto space. According to him, the city is open for Chinese crypto miners who were driven out by China’s intensified crackdowns. Also, he added that with Miami’s nuclear energy, miners can take advantage of the city’s cheap energy.
