The initial matches of DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 group A have been concluded, with Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro coming out on top of their respective matchups against mousesports and FaZe.
Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev was the difference-maker for his side as they took on mousesports on Overpass, the European squad’s first official on the map since May 2020. Christopher “dexter” Nong‘s team was strong in the latter parts of each half, but weren’t able to stop the Ukrainian superstar when it mattered the most, leading to a 16-14 loss.
Virtus.pro‘s star rifler Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis came up huge in the first half of Train against FaZe, going 21K-9D on the defense. His team reached a 15-8 lead in no time, but didn’t close things out easily, as Helvijs “broky” Saukants and Marcelo “coldzera” David made it a competitive affair. Ultimately, Virtus.pro brought it over the line, 16-13, to set up a match against regional rivals Natus Vincere.
With opening losses, FaZe and mousesports are sent to the lower bracket. The former team is in dire need of a good result, as they have struggled to find form since the addition of Finn “karrigan” Andersen in May, securing just four wins from 12 matches played.
