MultiVersus: How To Play Reindog

Date:

Reindog is a cute, cuddly dog with antlers that’s an original MultiVersus character. His role is primarily seen as a support class in team matches, so many people end up sleeping on his power in single-player matches. He does not have kill potential in a traditional sense with up airs or side attacks, but he can build up a lot of damage quickly and do devastating spikes on enemies.

Players who are unsure how to play Reindog or want to see what he’s capable of should use this guide. They will learn to master his moves as a menacing and offensive character with good support qualities.

Moves And What They Do

Here are some tips regarding Reindog’s moves and how to use them more effectively:

Specials

Love Leash (Neutral Ground Special)

  • Reindog will shoot a tether that is connected to him and will continue to do damage to an opponent that is overlapping it.
  • If playing with a teammate, it can tether to them and do more damage.
    • If the input is pressed again, it will bring players back to him.
    • The tether lasts almost for the entire cooldown when tethered to an ally.
  • The move doesn’t last very long or do a lot of damage, but it should always be used when available.
  • This move does not go through walls.

Flounce Pounce (Side Ground Special)

  • It’s a pounce attack that hits slightly in front of Reindog.
  • This move is not a kill move but does significant damage.
  • It has a sweet spot at the tip of the move.
  • It’s great as it has priority over most moves.

Firework Master (Side Air Special)

  • Reindog does a forward spinning attack.
  • This move is great for recovery.
  • This is a move that has a big hitbox and is suitable for edge guarding.
  • Players can also fast fall into this move.

Power Crystal (Up Ground Special)

  • This move summons a crystal above Reindog.
    • If a player charges the attack, it will send the crystal higher up.
  • It shoots a bolt of lightning that damages enemies and applies Shock, which gives the enemies continuous damage, and they also damage their allies.
  • If it hits allies or Reindog, then they will gain Electrified, which applies Shock to the next enemy they hit.
  • This move should always be thrown out whenever and as high as possible.

Flying Floof (Up Air Special)

  • Reindog tumbles up and then rolls by the ground.
  • Players can use this to move Reindog around the stage quickly.
  • Allies can pick up Reindog as an item and throw him at enemies.

Fireball (Down Ground Special)

  • He will charge and shoot a fireball in an arc that deals Ignited – this effect accrues damage on an enemy that decays and can be stacked to make it last longer.
  • If charged, it will travel farther.
  • On a hit, it leaves a firewall that repeatedly applies Ignited.
  • An ally’s projectile that passes through will deal Ignited.
  • Reindog can shoot it multiple times before the cooldown.
    • When it’s on cooldown, it will disappear quickly.
  • Players want to use this much as they can to get Ignite on enemies continuously.
  • This move can spike enemies, and even if it doesn’t, the Ignite is a huge plus.

Meteor

  • The same as the ground, except he shoots a downward fireball without a charge.
  • This move is great for starting a combo.

Attacks

PTOO! (Neutral Attack)

  • Reindog will spit a projectile that can be aimed up or down, and it will bounce off terrain.
  • The air attack is the same as the ground.
  • The charge of this attack sends it in an arc.
    • This is great at zoning out the air space.
  • Players want to use this for a safe ledge guard.

Fluffy Combo(Side Attack)

  • Reindog does a combo of headbutts and swipes.
  • This has a big hit stun on the first hit, so it will be great for combos.

Spin-Dog (Side Air Attack)

  • He will spin quickly, hitting the target multiple times.
  • This will be one of the main moves he uses to open.
  • This move doesn’t have good kill potential, but it builds a lot of damage.

Back Bumper (Up Ground Attack)

  • Reindog will charge an attack that launches him up and rams enemies with his back.
  • This move is not a kill move.
  • Players should primarily use this move to stack damage on recovering enemies.
  • It does have high priority, so players should take advantage of this.

Flying Chomp (Up Air Attack)

  • He will bite above himself.
  • This is the worst move in his kit and should only be used in combos.

Tail Swipe (Down Ground Attack)

  • This is a tail swipe that can be charged to break armor.
  • This move will kill enemies of high health.
  • This attack has priority over most enemy attacks.

Tail Swat (Down Air Attack)

  • Reindog does a charged tail swipe that knocks enemies downward.
  • This attack is going to be the primary spike and ledge guard for Reindog.
  • This move can kill some enemies with a full charge at 100.
    • This will be the primary kill move.

Tips

These are some extra tips for players to keep in mind when playing Reindog:

  • Love Leash has a range that players should always keep in mind as they should keep this move out to deal tick damage.
  • Reindog should start most of his combos with a forward air or a down air.
  • Players should try and move the opponents to the left or right side of the stage, and Reindog’s best kill options come from his ledge guards.
  • Reindog rarely kills opponents early, so players must learn how to use all of their abilities to build up damage quickly.
    • This can be done by constantly ensuring Reindog has a tether, firewall, and crystal up when available.
