mousesports have secured their first win in ESL Pro League Season 14 Group C with a victory over Evil Geniuses, beating them 2-0. mouz will go into day four with a 1-2 record, while EG have lost all three of their matches so far.

Despite being 0-3, Evil Geniuses technically can still advance in an unlikely scenario, which, among other things, would require them to beat both Natus Vincere and fnatic in their final two games, most likely without dropping any maps. This match was do or die for mousesports though, as the European side would have been eliminated should they have lost to the NA squad.

The pressure is on for mousesports

The first map of Inferno kicked off with a pretty standard affair, as mousesports took a close 8-7 lead after the first half. However, going into the second half, it was only Owen “⁠oBo⁠” Schlatter from the Evil Geniuses side who put up any sign of a defense. The North American side only picked up a single CT round before losing Inferno 8-16, despite oBo ending up as the highest rated player on the map.

mousesports‘ pick of Nuke held a similar story to that of the first map. The first half was quite competitive, with Evil Geniuses taking a pretty standard 10-5 lead from the Counter-Terrorist side. And much like Inferno, EG was only able to pick up a single round in the second half, with oBo once again putting up a valiant effort, before losing map two 11-16. The American player’s strong performances in both maps of the series actually placed him as the highest rated player of the series with 1.40, above mouz’s David “⁠frozen⁠” Čerňanský, who had a 1.38 rating of his own.

Going into the final two days of Group C, four teams are tied a 2-1, mousesports are 1-2, and Evil Geniuses 0-3. The fight for playoffs is still wide open, and Monday’s matches will give a much better picture at who is looking to advance.
