More Tech Talents Discovered at NACOSS Software Hackathon 2019

As part of VoguePay’s initiatives in the digital ecosystem, VoguePay sponsored Software Hackathon organized by the Nigeria Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS)  at this year’s annual conference themed,””Contemporary Technology Ecosystem role for Student Developers” (CONTECO 2019). 

At the annual conference, VoguePay rewarded students who are developing applications that can improve various sectors of Nigeria’s economy with cash awards. The Software Hackathon is designed to develop students and encourage them to develop local software that would support the Nigerian economy and meet global demand.

Commenting on why the company sponsored NACOSS, Akomolafe Adesina, VoguePay’s COO noted that “It is an opportunity to give back to the community and to encourage a new generation of software entrepreneurs”. He added that recognizing talents will encourage the software industry in Nigeria to grow.

This year’s edition was not an exception.

The event which was held at Baze University, FCT. Abuja, from the 16th to 19th of October 2019, brought together over 500 student participants from different universities across the country.

With over 60 tech solutions pitching to win the prizes, the best three solutions were awarded cash prizes for their innovation. They include a mobile learning solution that helps students to improve the learning experience, a mobile app built to solve electoral malpractices for students elections and an app that helps blind people identify banknotes using their phone.

They all won cash prizes and business support from VoguePay.com while others were awarded consolation prizes for their presentations.

The winner for 2019 Software Hackathon is Sulaiman Hamza a Computer Science student from the Nasarawa State University.

Second position: – Samuel Emeka from Abia State Polytechnic. 

Third position:- Habeeb Bombata from Bells University of Technology, Ota.

The three winning ideas received cash prizes of N100,000, N75,000 and N50,000 respectively.

The NACOSS Software Hackathon competition is part of a strategic 5-year partnership that VoguePay is pursuing to help raise awareness about local talents in software development among students of higher institutions.

On behalf of all the participants, the national president of NACOSS, Abubakar Sadiq Hassan expressed his gratitude and thanked VoguePay for her continued support and sponsorship of the Software Hackathon.
