We’re mostly used to hearing bad news and skeptical prognoses whenever anyone’s talking about the Overwatch League, but this time around, there’s actually something wholly positive to break down: Erik “DoA” Lonnquist will return to OWL as a full-time caster!

He’ll be paired with none other than Andrew “ZP” Rush, another seasoned veteran who first cut his teeth in the “little leagues” before joining the OWL broadcast team back in January of 2020.

With Jake Lyon moving back to playing/coaching, ZP will be getting a dream replacement — a seasoned casting veteran who’s been around for what feels like an eternity. Speaking of DoA, his 2020 has been fairly mixed and eclectic in terms of output and focus. He was mostly casting Riot Games’ Teamfight Tactics, with a couple of other freelancing gigs in between.

Seeing DoA back on the Overwatch League broadcast will definitely be a welcome sight. DoA’s idiosyncratic humor and seasoned presence have been sorely missed, although it’s not like the rest of the broadcast team failed to “compensate” for his and Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles’ absence. On the contrary!

DoA Joins a Spectacular Line-up for the Overwatch League

Jack “Jaws” Wright has also announced his return and will be paired with Overwatch Contenders caster Victoria “VikkiKitty” Perez. Kevin “AVRL” Walker has also been promoted, so it’s fair to say that the broadcast team won’t lack talent! As for the analyst desk, Soe Gschwind will once again assume the role of the host, with Jonathan “Reinforce” Larsson and Scott “Custa” Kennedy returning as well.

The four “old-timers” and seasoned veteran casters Mitch “Uber” Leslie, Matt “Mr.X” Morello, Josh “Sideshow” Wilkinson, and Brennon Hook will once again lend their voices and entertain us in the process — much like they did over the last couple of years. Unfortunately, a couple of veterans didn’t “make the cut,” albeit for entirely different reasons.

All in all, Blizzard has once again assembled a spectacular line-up that can easily stand shoulder to shoulder with any other esports broadcast team in the world. Hopefully, the gameplay delivers as well! The Overwatch League returns back to action on April 16, so mark your calendars!
