52 Victoria St, Potts Point has a $10m price guide for a June 7 auction, down from $15m last year with other agents.

A grand end-of-row terrace evoking the likes of historic New York or London residences, the extraordinary Potts Point home of the late jeweller Tony White has just been re-listed by his architect partner Alexander Michael.

The globally acclaimed designer bought the traditional 8m wide terrace at 52 Victoria St in 1978 for just $85,000 at a time when Potts Point was a bohemian neighbourhood brimming with artists and musicians.

Now on the market with Jane and Samuel Schumann of Raine & Horne Potts Point Elizabeth Bay, the Victoria St home was briefly listed in late 2021 with $15m price expectations through another agency, but the guide for the June 7 auction is $10m.

Jane Schumann has the first open home on Saturday and is expecting it to be popular with the revised guide.

The residence features large rooms with high ceilings.

“Working with such a wonderful blank canvas is a tremendous opportunity … the grandeur of the rooms and the possibility of remodelling or reconfiguring to your personal taste in such a majestic home are both fantastic aspects of this property,” she said.

On a 215sq m corner block bordering Victoria St and Challis Ave, the imposing three-storey home was built in 1910 for naval officers working at Garden Island.

Beyond the classic front veranda there is a reception hall lined with original tessellated tiles leading through to a home office and multipurpose gallery.

Used as a private viewing room for clients, the space has welcomed local guests by the likes of Jill Wran, Gai Waterhouse, Kylie Minogue, Cate Blanchett, Ita Buttrose and Julia Gillard.

White reportedly made pieces for international names such as Pope John Paul II, Barbara Bush, Lauren Bacall and Kate Middleton.

The Carrara marble kitchen with butler’s pantry also opens to a rear deck.

On the second floor the main suite features a dressing room and ensuite as well as a wide street-facing balcony.

Two more bedrooms share another full bathroom and there is additional storage or room for a retreat in the 36sq m converted attic with large dormer windows and skylights.
