Jet Airways completed its last proving flights to revalidate its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) successfully. After completing a major regulatory procedure, the carrier’s exclusive attention will now be on putting the remaining pieces in place for a successful launch in a few months.

On May 17th, Jet Airways cleared a major hurdle in the process of securing its AOC. The airline completed the last set of two proving flights, with a spokesperson of its owner Jalan-Kalrock Consortium commenting,

“We have successfully conducted our proving flights over two days, and we now look forward to the grant of the AOC by the DGCA.”

The DGCA wants to make sure that the airline is ready to perform flights for future operations before issuing an AOC. The proving flights include representatives from the regulator and airline personnel, and real-life scenarios are replicated throughout the flights to test the flight crew’s response. If all goes well, the AOC will be given within a week.

Jet Airways flew a Boeing 737 (VT-SXE) from Hyderabad to nowhere as a test flight on May 5th, the airline’s 29th birthday. Although it was not part of the proving flights, it was noteworthy in its own right, providing a peek of what was to come. Later that evening, the plane was flown to Delhi.

To complete its proving flights successfully, VT-SXE had to make a total of five landings, which began on May 15th when the aircraft took off from Delhi for Mumbai. It stopped at Ahmedabad on the way back before completing the day’s last trip between Ahmedabad and Delhi.
