2D: Visual Representations
This dimension consists of graphical elements including typography, images, and icons that users interact with while on the app or website. They normally supplement the words to communicate effectively to the users.
3D: Physical Objects And Space
Designers must determine what physical objects their users prefer to interact with their apps or website. Is it a laptop with a mouse or a touchpad? Or is it a smartphone or iPad with the user’s fingers? Also, they need to know what type of physical space they users mostly are in when interacting with the product.
For example, the user might be standing in a crowded place while using the app on a mobile device or sitting at some desk in an office or at home surfing the site. All these factors affect to some extent the interaction that exists between the user and the product.
Although this dimension appears slightly abstract, it mainly refers to media that changes considerably with time including videos, animation, and sounds. The sounds and motion play a critical role in offering audio and visual feedback to the users’ interactions. Another factor of importance is the amount of time that a user spends while interacting with the product. Is it possible for the users to track their progress or pause and then resume their interactions later on?
This dimension comprises the mechanism of a product: how do different users perform various actions on the website? How do the users operate the app or website? In general, it seeks to determine how the previous dimensions define the interactions of an app or website. Additionally, it includes the reactions of the users and the product, for example, feedback or emotional responses.
The interaction designs and UX designs, when implemented correctly, play an integral role in attracting and retaining users to a product. Knowledgeable and experienced developers succeed in gaining many users and customers by creatively utilizing this design to their products.
