Influencers share their entrepreneurial stories to inspire people to follow in their footsteps

Date:

Influencer’s earnings are often up for debate, but whilst huge figures are often thrown around, it’s not the most stable career choice in terms of income.

In fact, many influencers have diversified their portfolio, creating successful businesses across a variety of industries.

To find out more about how these influencers have broken into the business world, Moneypenny spoke to three online personalities who have successfully grown a business, to help inspire people who want to follow in their footsteps.

Maggie Unzueta grew her passion for cooking authentic Mexican cuisine into a thriving business.

She told Moneypenny how she utilised her entrepreneurial skills to do what she loves, alongside her social media work.

She started blogging back in 2010, growing a following who loved hearing about her culture across several social media platforms. Her fans loved seeing her trips to Mexico, so she decided to branch out and share a tangible version of these experiences.

Maggie said: “Recently, I decided to see if my audience would be interested in products from Mexico. We sold out twice in the first two weeks. I handpick everything we sell in the shop. Also, I make sure to write a handwritten thank you note to everyone who has made a purchase. It’s the little touches like these that make a world of difference. I can truly say that I love and respect my followers. I believe they feel that too.”

Moneypenny also spoke to ChihYu Smith, the creator of the popular food blog I Heart Umami.

She grew a large following online, sharing Asian-inspired Paleo recipes. After seeing how much people loved her recipes, she launched a now best-selling cookbook and then founded Easy Homemade – an interactive online meal planning program.

ChihYu said: “I had a corporate job that I didn’t love so I decided to start a blog as my side hussle and see where it could lead. My blog continues to grow steadily and reaches millions of readers and followers yearly despite the fact that the paleo niche has been declining in popularity in the United States.

“I focus on a few simple things – serve your audience really well and deliver massive value to them. And in my world, that means delivering really excellent content (i.e. recipes) that taste better and healthier, and easier to make than others. I’d say use your unfair advantage and excel from it to help others. For me, I grew up in Taiwan until I was in my mid 20s so naturally my taste buds are well trained in Asian cuisine flavors. I remake the dishes for my paleo low carb audience and that’s my unfair advantage which many others do not have.”

Moneypenny wanted to inspire people to follow in these influencer’s successful footsteps. They spoke to Farwah Sheikh, an Instagram influencer who shares their journey of self discovery with their followers.

She’s now shared her advice for building a thriving business off the back of her online influence: “I want people to know that when you decide to be real and authentic you become a magnet. You realize you’ve had the power all along to unlock your unique secrets.

“The reality is so many of us are caught up in what others think we end up letting doubt kill our dreams, my advice:

  • Do not wait until things line up and feel “perfect” to start something you want to explore…Just do it.
  • Start a goal on a Thursday, a Sunday, a Wednesday.. do not wait until Monday.
  • FAIL! It’s okay, it leads and pivots you to success.
  • Visualize the dream and let your heart go into flow.
  • No one is going to clap for you everytime you achieve success, you are your own cheerleader.
  • Authenticity is the key to success in everything you do because it comes from the heart and that is linked to your soul.”
