IndiGo will resume daily flights from India to Guangzhou and Chengdu in China, as well as Yangon in Myanmar, on March 27 next year, according to a Business Standard Report.
IndiGo’s decision to restart these flights comes at a time when Air India, part of the Tata Group, is leasing 30 planes to significantly expand its domestic and international operations. There are currently no flights between the two countries due to China’s strict Covid-19 policies and its border dispute with India.
India – Myanmar Flights:
Meanwhile, 12 flights per week operate on the India-Myanmar routes. Myanmar Airways operates ten of them, while Air India operates two.
IndiGo flights
According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, currently operates 1,092 international flights per week between India and 22 foreign cities. Until early 2020, IndiGo operated daily flights between Delhi and Chengdu, Kolkata and Guangzhou, and Kolkata and Yangon. When the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended all scheduled international flights due to the Covid-19 outbreak on March 23, 2020, the airline ceased operations. On March 27, this year, India resumed scheduled international flights.

Flights between Delhi and Chengdu, Kolkata and Guangzhou, and Kolkata and Yangon will resume in March next year, according to IndiGo executives. Tickets for these flights are already on sale through the airline’s digital platforms and other ticketing platforms.
Flights from Delhi to Chengdu, Kolkata to Guangzhou, and Kolkata to Yangon take about 285 minutes, 225 minutes, and 115 minutes, respectively. As a result, IndiGo executives stated that the airline is planning to deploy A320neo aircraft on these routes.

IndiGo currently controls roughly 60% of the domestic passenger market. With the relaunch of Jet Airways and the addition of one new aircraft every two weeks by new entrant Akasa Air, competition on domestic routes is only going to intensify. So, IndiGo believes that its next phase of growth will be primarily driven by international expansion.
