In an interesting development coming from Tamil Nadu state of India, the state government is planning to set up a blockchain tech specific to their needs with the plan of using it to launch a zero proof identity-based predictive government service delivery according to the Chief Minister who announced it in the state assembly.

According to the latest report in TOI

A senior IT official said, “Data stored using blockchain technology cannot be altered. TNeGA (which is an e-governance agency) will build a blockchain platform for the Tamil Nadu government, at a cost of approximately, Rs40.80 crore to be offered as a service to all government departments without them having to maintain a blockchain node. They shall be able to verify the data in the blockchain independently without hosting the node.”

With regard to zero proof identity, at present in e-governance, citizens have to apply for various government services like certificates, documents, licences and others to various government departments and its agencies, either by going over to their offices or through Arasu e-Sevai Centres or from their homes.

It’s amazing how steadily state governments are picking up on this tech and utilising it to improve their processes. TN state also happens to have several IT companies and is a manufacturing hub for the automotive industry. I wouldn’t be surprised if this sector also embraces this tech in the near future.

A new website called ‘Yaadhum Oore’ will be launched at a cost of Rs 60 lakh for wooing investors. The website will showcase the state. Similarly, the chief minister also announced Rs 10 crore to have a separate branch called “Industry nourish Tamil Nadu” at the New Delhi-based Tamil Nadu House once again to showcase the state and woo investors. The branch will be responsible to convene meetings, discussions in India as well as abroad.

But the biggest thing I look forward amongst these developments is that India will open its arms to open blockchains and cryptocurrencies. That will make the biggest impact on the unbanked as well as those who really need to protect their money from the inflationary FIAT currency that the government keeps devaluing over a period of time.

I look forward to updates from the Supreme Court case hearing on the RBI vs Indian crypto exchange soon! Stay tuned!
