II-VI Inc wins Strategic Supplier Award from Xinghan

Engineered materials and optoelectronic component maker II-VI Inc of Saxonburg, PA, USA, which makes high-power semiconductor lasers, has won the Strategic Supplier Award from Shenzhen Xinghan Laser Technology Co Ltd in recognition of its “outstanding performance” as a supplier of high-power laser diode chips for Xinghan’s fiber-coupled pump laser modules. The presentation took place at LASER World of Photonics China 2020 in Shanghai (3-5 July).

“II-VI continues to be a strategic supplier of high-power laser diode chips with a strong record of technical innovation, quality and delivery performance,” comments Xinghan’s CEO & president Shaofeng Zhou. “We look forward to growing our relationship with II-VI by leveraging its portfolio of high-power laser components, one of the most complete in the industry,” he adds.

“Xinghan’s award is an honor and a strong recognition of II-VI’s ability to deliver high-power semiconductor laser chips with high quality and at scale,” says Dr Karlheinz Gulden, senior VP, Laser Devices and Systems business unit. “II-VI’s laser diodes’ output power is market-leading and enables industrial laser designs with fewer pump modules, which lowers the cost of cutting, welding, brazing and laser additive manufacturing,” he claims.

Navitas Launch ‘Little Star GaN’ Mascots at Exclusive Xiaomi…

Navitas Semiconductor Limited today announced that their new ‘Little Star GaN’ twin mascots were launched to an excited crowd at the Xiaomi Technology and Investment Day in Beijing on September 25th.

Gallium Nitride (GaN) is a next-generation power semiconductor technology that runs up to 100x faster than old, slow silicon chips, with dramatic improvements in energy savings and power density. When ‘Little Star Gallium’ (XiaoJia) and ‘Little Star Nitrogen’ (XiaoDan) work together on ‘Planet Navitas’, we learn how GaN and fast charging not only contribute to a better consumer experience but also deliver higher efficiency and reduced pollution across the whole power electronics world, from smartphones and laptops to high-power data centers, eMobility and new energy applications.

The ‘Little Star GaN’ twins will feature in educational videos and articles across Navitas’ GaNFast website and social media platforms, and will make personal live appearances at special events.

Navitas was among a select group of partners invited to the Xiaomi Technology and Investment Day, held at the Beijing headquarters. Xiaomi visitors to the Navitas display included Chairman and CEO Mr. Jun LEI, President and CFO Mr. Xiang WANG, and VP Investment Mrs. Changsu SUN.

Mr. Lei had previously announced the world’s smallest 65W USB-C fast charger using Navitas’ GaNFast power ICs at the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 PRO launch.

This study has important implications for the growing number of 3D stacking applications where thermal budget is limited.

YES (Yield Engineering Systems, Inc.), a leading manufacturer of process equipment for the semiconductor advanced packaging, life sciences and “more-than-Moore” markets, today announced that Zia Karim, Ph.D, the company’s Senior VP and CMO, Business Development and Strategic Marketing, will present a paper at IWLPC illustrating how the choice of cure process affects cure time and film properties for low-temperature polyimides.

“The paper examines thermal, mechanical, and dielectric properties for low temperature polyimides as a function of cure parameters using YES’s VertaCure XP system. We were able to demonstrate better properties as well as at least 35% lower CoO for these polyimides when cured under vacuum, as compared to atmospheric methods,” said Dr. Karim. “This study has important implications for the growing number of 3D stacking applications where thermal budget is limited.
