Phases

The first thing to keep in mind about Scrapbeak is that he has two phases. These include his standard phase–during which he behaves as normal–and a frenzy phase. During Scrapbeak’s frenzy, he will move significantly faster, gain a 50% damage resistance boost, and he will throw out deadly concertina traps. However this state of frenzy is not all bad as Scrapbeak’s panic will send all sorts of consumables flying out of his backpack, allowing players to restock. You can expect the frenzy to happen 3 times per boss fight, every time Scrapbeak loses 25% of his health.

Loadout

While Scrapbeak has no armor, he does have his above-mentioned backpack. You should always avoid attacking from behind since the backpack will reduce incoming damage significantly.

Upon first seeing Scrapbeak, take note upon which melee weapon he is holding. This weapon will determine the type of damage applied to you if hit. To better explain, here is each weapon’s effect.

Melee Weapon Damage Type
Axe Bleeding
Hammer Blunt
Pitchfork Piercing
Shovel Rending

Movement

Scrapbeak is the second slowest boss in the game, so as long as you plan ahead, there should be no issues here. However, after each frenzy, he gains a small speed buff that lasts until he dies. Luckily for us, Scrapbeak is one of the loudest enemies in the game, so losing track of him should basically never happen. Just remember to use those sound cues!

The Lair

The most unique thing about the Scrapbeak boss fight is his lair. Upon entering the compound, you will immediately notice that there are no world items to be found. This includes health, consumables, and even melee weapons. Because of this, it is absolutely vital that you come prepared. No more relying on lucky health drops to save you.

Defeating Scrapbeak

Firstly, remember that Scrapbeak’s biggest weakness is piercing damage. Weapons such as the cavalry saber, bomb lance, and pitchfork are going to be the quickest way to defeat him. Of course, though, it is impossible to know before entering a match who the boss is going to be. Try to make adjustments to your loadout as soon as possible, whether that means finding a pitchfork at the next compound over or picking up a saber from a hunter you just killed.

A universally deadly weapon is the sticky bomb, and Scrapbeak is no exception. A well-placed throw (not on the backpack), will immediately tear out a massive chunk of health.

As the fight progresses, the lair will become more and more littered with traps, and Scrapbeak will become faster. Keeping track of where every exit and ledge is will be vital to survival. Almost certainly, there will come a point where a quick escape will be the only thing that saves you.

As expected, every enemy has their weak spot, and Scrapbeak’s just so happens to be his mask. Every shot counts, so be sure to aim for the head. As long as this basic rule is followed, Scrapbeak should be a chip off your shoulder in no time.

Surviving The Banish

Hunt Showdown BanishHunt Showdown Banish

As with any boss in hunt showdown, there is a 5-minute banish period where the whole map is alerted to your area. It is your job to secure the bounty by keeping all enemies at bay (or killing them) until the time is up. Make sure to use this time to also scavenge for whatever items Scrapbeak dropped and restock on the essentials.

Ironically, the concertina bombs from Scrapbeak that were such a nuisance at first are now our friend. It is important to be strategic about which wires you break; leaving them in front of doors or windows can be very effective at preventing enemies from pushing. Sometimes, Scrapbeak will leave behind bear traps, so be sure to keep an eye out for those to block off entryways. Good luck out there in the Bayou!
