HIG Capital has hired Sebastian Lorenz from Barings as head of the DACH region to boost the European team at its credit affiliate HIG Whitehorse.

Lorenz has 11 years of experience in direct lending and corporate finance and was previously director in Barings’ private finance division. He also spent three years at the private debt department in Ares Management.

Pascal Meysson, head of HIG WhiteHorse Europe who joined the firm last year, said, “The DACH region is a key focus of our direct lending activities in Europe, and recruiting such a talented professional is another milestone in our ambitious path in this asset class.”

HIG Capital has over €36bn of equity capital under management. It raised $1.1bn last year for the final close of its latest lending fund through HIG Whitehorse.

The firm also struck a target-busting $1.3bn final close for its sixth flagship lower mid-market fundraise last year.

Recent HIG deals in Europe include exiting the RGIB bathroom furniture division to Roca Sanitario in January and the buying out of KPMG’s UK restructuring services division in March.
