Tournament organizer ESL has announced the schedule and locations for the upcoming Regional Major Ranking events set to take place ahead of the IEM Rio Major 2022. The European RMR will be played in Malta while the tournaments for the Americas and Asia will be held in Sweden and Australia respectively.
Unlike the previous RMRs held in April for the PGL Major in Antwerp, where the competitions for each region ran sequentially, this set of events will all run simultaneously between October 4-9. The new schedule will shorten the RMR phase by eight days compared to the previous Major cycle.
Only 24 teams out of 52 will make it to the IEM Rio Major in October
Europe
The Mediterranean island-state of Malta will host the 32 teams that qualified for the IEM Road To Rio Europe RMRs through their placing at the PGL Major Antwerp or the open qualifiers taking place between August 15-28. The squads will be divided into two separate tournaments, each granting eight qualifications spots to the Major.
The difference between the two events comes from the number of Legends Stage spots that are up for grabs from each. The first RMR will give the top four placed teams a bye to the second stage of the Major, while the second only has three spots available.

Americas
Teams from the New World will instead gather in Stockholm for IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR. The event in the Swedish capital will run alongside the European RMRs in Malta and will allow six squads from the Americas to claim a spot at the Major, with the top-placed roster taking the mantle of Legends.
The decision to send the 16 teams from North and South America to Stockholm was made in order to avoid any significant problems or delays with visa applications. The matches will be conducted in ESL’s studio facility.

The event will take place at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre between October 7-9.
