Electric city car Renault 5 E-Tech to be under £25k

Date:

Renault is set to revolutionize the automotive market with its all-electric rendition of the classic 5 supermini, slated for a summer release next year with an estimated starting price of 25,000 euros (£23,400). Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the production model stays true to the concept vehicle, drawing inspiration from its iconic predecessor.

Dubbed the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, it marks the debut of the AmpR Small platform dedicated to B-segment electric vehicles. Sporting a more compact motor compared to its predecessors like the Megane E-Tech electric, it will offer three power outputs: 150PS, 122PS, and 95PS.

Powered by a 52kWh battery, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric boasts an impressive range of up to 400km (250 miles) and a towing capacity of 500kg. Renault’s CEO, Luca de Meo, emphasized its significance in the transition towards electric and sustainable mobility, positioning it as a catalyst for Renault’s transformation into a next-generation automotive company.

Equipped with an 11kW onboard AC charger, alongside 80kW and 100kW DC chargers, it also introduces an innovative AC bidirectional charger compatible with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies.

Safety features include advanced systems such as intelligent adaptive cruise control and level 2 automated driving technology, showcasing Renault’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology.

De Meo emphasized the Renault 5 E-Tech electric’s role in reshaping the European automotive landscape, highlighting its production in France as a testament to the feasibility of European manufacturing amidst global competition.

With its blend of heritage-inspired design, cutting-edge technology, and eco-conscious engineering, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric stands poised to lead the charge towards a greener, more sustainable future in the automotive industry.
