Why You Want to Two Hand Weapons

As we alluded to, you’ll want to two hand weapons in combat to deal extra damage. However, that increased damage is balanced by two other negative effects.

First of all, those attacks may not be as accurate as one handed ones, and you will not be able to use a shield to block any incoming attacks.

Therefore, you’ll need to closely manage your movement and dodging, as taking hits will be painful when using two hand weapons.

How to Two Hand Weapons in Elden Ring

As for how you actually two hand weapons in Elden Ring, it’s nice and simple. When using a weapon, press Triangle if you’re on PlayStation (Y on Xbox and E on PC) and then press L1 or R1 (LB or RB on Xbox/ left of right click on PC) to add the extra hand, depending on which hand you have the weapon equipped in already.

You’ll then have the weapon equipped in two hands, which will be obvious from the way your characters is standing. Again, be aware that attacks will be a bit wayward when using them in two hand, so be ready to dodge.

Then, to switch back to one hand with that weapon, the easiest thing to do is the re-equip something like a shield to your off hand. That should be bound to the left d-pad button on console.
