Why book a holiday to a secluded coastal eco retreat when you could buy your very own?

The answer will be simple after taking a look inside this luxury property at Streaky Bay on SA’s Eyre Peninsula.

The 5.39ha property at 252 Wheaton Drive is offering prospective buyers the perfect home or holiday residence – one with the potential to generate some extra cash.

Owner Andrew Longbottom built the property with his partner at the time, Natalie Clark, in 2014 after buying the vacant block five years earlier.

“When we bought it, it was literally a blank canvas,” he said.

“Our first job was to get the whole block revegetated.”

Once he had the block, Mr Longbottom said he knew exactly what he wanted his home to look like.

It was a labour of love for the stonemason, who built a lot of the property himself.

“All the stonework is all my work and all the (weathered) timber beams, they’re all recycled timber from the Port Lincoln and Ceduna jetties,” Mr Longbottom said.

He said he spent two days fixing up each of the timber beams, including sanding them and removing the rotten parts.

All his hard work has resulted in a modern yet rustic retreat that mirrors its surrounding coastal environment.

Double glazed windows frame picturesque sea views, soaring ceilings and polished concrete floors make it contemporary, while a wood heater makes it feel cosy.

The standout feature of the home, and Mr Longbottom’s favourite, is the rainforest-like bathroom.

“The bathroom is really nice, especially on a cold winter’s day overlooking the water,” Mr Longbottom said.

“My vision was for everything to have an ocean view, even the toilet.”

The property also has a shed with modern granny flat, a 12kVa solar system and a 10kVa backup generator, as well as eight 25,000L rainwater tanks.

Numerical Realestate principal Daniel Eramiha said the fact that the property had also been rented out as a luxury eco retreat on Airbnb for almost $300 per night was also a big drawcard.

Best offers for the property close on March 29.
