Facebook has asked its employees to refrain from wearing the company logo in public. This directive came after the suspension of Trump’s account from the social-media platform.

The action was taken as a cautionary measure after violence broke out at Capitol Hill on January 6. Facebook had communicated this internally with concern being expressed over global security. The social-media platform is taking stringent action against the phrase- ‘stop the steal’ that was used by Trump and his supporters over claims of voter fraud.

The Capitol Police and FBI had also reportedly issued a warning on armed protests being planned across the US. This may take place until the day Joe Biden officially takes over.

Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Pinterest and many other major social-media platforms have indefinitely banned Trump over fears of his remarks inciting further violence.

This has also raised eyebrows across the globe as social-media platforms had been infamous for inaction towards perpetrators outside the US. Many human rights activists and experts took to social media to express how negligence and inaction are commonplace for uneven implementation of policies.

In Sri Lanka, Myanmar and India, there had been requests to take down Facebook posts that had contributed to violence. However, no action was taken by the social media giant. The consequence of such posts were witnessed in real life, with news on them making headlines across the globe.

Twitter and Facebook had defended their cases saying the policies apply to leaders worldwide. This step towards banning Trump has also raised hopes for social-media platforms to become assertive.
