There’s been a thorn in the side of the online gaming community when it comes to FromSoft games. Dark Souls 3 and other games in the series haven’t had online servers since the beginning of the year.  This is due to a persistent security issue in the online infrastructure of these games. FromSoftware pulled down the servers to prevent the issue from compromising unsuspecting users. The PvP gameplay built as the core of the online experience have been non-existent ever since. But with a newly spotted Steam patch, a fix may be incoming.

Lance McDonald noticed this and said, “Bandai Namco have pushed a new Dark Souls 3 update to folks with access to some of the debug branches on Steam for the first time in many years. Probably testing new patches for upcoming server restoration.”

This is the first time that DS3 has been updated in years, suggesting that the infamous security issue might be fixed soon. This has been something that players have been waiting for, although the issues have remained for literal years. There hasn’t been any news on this for for some time, since back in January of this year when the servers were taken offline indefinitely. The news broke months ago about the security issue, and though the servers remain down, there was hope of a fix.

Bandai Namco responded to concerned Reddit users back in May when the servers were still down. Bandai Namco responded by saying that it is “happy to confirm that the developers are actively working on resolving the issue in question and re-launching the Dark Souls servers for PC as soon as possible.” That was good news for fans who remained content to wait, but it’s been a long wait indeed. However, there is still no confirmed date for when this might happen. In the official response, Bandai Namco said, “For the moment, we do not have an estimate of when this is expected to happen.”
