Cyberpunk 2077 map size has been on player’s minds as we get closer to the game’s release. Many players are expecting the game’s map size to meet or exceed developer CD Projekt RED’s last open-world outing, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Cyberpunk 2077’s map will be smaller than the The Witcher 3’s, but will use vertical spaces and be more dense. In an interview with GamesRadar at GamesCom 2019, Cyberpunk 2077 producer Richard Borzymowski let out some details about the map size.
“Cyberpunk might even be a bit smaller than The Witcher, but when it comes to density of content, […] you basically take the Witcher and you squeeze it right in. You delete the wilderness between this,” Borzymowski said.
He goes on to explain that the lanes and countryside connecting the cities and locations like in the Witcher 3 are done away with. Night City is an important setting for the story, so the environment has to be denser.
“The city wouldn’t be believable if it wouldn’t be without life. So, we packed it full of life,” he said.
Based on this interview, we can assume the game won’t feature many locations outside of the city or even at all. The city itself will have plenty to do, anyway.
