In the wake of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, everyone needs to take precautionary measures like practicing good personal hygiene habits to combat and keep the virus at bay.
The South Korean tech giant Samsung too has decided to do its bit to fight off the coronavirus, as they have already suffered because of it with the closures of several factories in South Korea.
Now, Samsung is offering free “Galaxy Sanitising Service” to Galaxy owners through official Samsung Service Center and Samsung Experience Stores to help them get rid of bacteria, germs, and viruses off their devices.
The free cleaning service is currently being offered only for Galaxy owners in selected 19 countries across the globe. These countries include Argentina, Chile Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, the United States, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
According to the Samsung Malaysian website, their free sanitising service uses UV-C light that cleans the device without using any abrasive materials, liquids or harsh cleaning chemicals and also doesn’t affect the phone’s performance.
“The Galaxy Sanitizing Service will sanitize your Galaxy phone for free with UV-C light, which cleans your device without using harsh chemicals. Samsung has carefully tested the sanitization devices they use at the Samsung Service Centers and Samsung Experience Stores to ensure that the UV-C light doesn’t affect your phone’s performance when following the approved guidelines,” the company said in a statement
The company also advises against using harsh chemicals to clean phones, as it may scratch the screen or damage the oleophobic coating that keeps phone displays largely free from unwarranted fingerprint smudges. Also, using liquid chemicals on devices that do not have an official water-resistance rating could potentially kill the device.
Samsung has highlighted that the UV-C sanitizers are third-party devices and the effectiveness of these sanitizers may vary depending on market and model. It also said that there is no guarantee regarding the efficacy of the sanitization and it may not kill all bacteria, germs, and viruses.
The company is expected to expand its free cleaning service soon to countries like Australia, Austria, Canada, Czech, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, the Philippines, Romania, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and the UK.
