We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the scientific innovation centre, UnitDX. Although most of us, having just begun the CDT, don’t yet have a concrete idea of what we will be doing after completing our PhD, this visit was a real eye opener and very useful in giving us an insight into the different paths available, as well as how research functions outside academia. In particular, we appreciated the interesting tours of the lab spaces there, as well as an in depth and honest conversation about the realities of a start up in this industry. It was very stimulating to see the entrepreneurial possibilities of quantum technology and made these seem like a more realistic goal – we left feeling inspired to start our own company! A huge thank you to UnitDX for providing the opportunity to further explore the applications of the PhD.
