Blackstone makes third senior appointment in a month by bringing in Tierney as head of infrastructure portfolio operations

Date:

Buyout major Blackstone has appointed Brian Tierney from American Electric Power to succeed Steve Bolze as head of infrastructure portfolio operations and asset management.

Bloze is retiring from his day-to-day role to become an executive advisor to Blackstone Infrastructure Partners in the fourth quarter.

This is the firm’s third senior appointment in a month, following the hiring of Hala Zeine as managing director for the technology sector in its portfolio operations group and Courtney della Cava as senior managing director and global head of talent and leadership for its portfolio operations group.

Tierney was CFO and executive vice president for AEP for 11 years, where he partnered with portfolio infrastructure companies to drive value creation initiatives. He also held various management positions responsible for pricing energy transactions, market operations and trading.

Sean Klimczak, Global Head of Blackstone Infrastructure Partners (BIP) said: “We are pleased to welcome Brian to the Blackstone Infrastructure Partners team.  He has a stellar track record with over twenty-five years of operations, strategy and finance experience in the infrastructure industry.  I look forward to partnering with Brian as we work to expand BIP’s global presence and to assist our portfolio companies in their efforts to drive transformative growth.”

Blackstone struck a $4.5bn final close for its oversubscribed Blackstone Growth fund in March – making it the largest first-time growth equity private fundraise in history.

Blackstone Infrastructure Partners raised $14bn for the final close of its debut fundraise in 2019.

The firm’s secondaries arm Strategic Partners closed what is believed to be the world’s biggest infrastructure secondaries fund on $3.75bn last year.
