Irish flag carrier, Aer Lingus has officially confirmed that the airline will be launching a total of four new transatlantic routes from its UK base at Manchester International Airport (MAN) to destinations both in the United States and the Caribbean.

The Dublin-based carrier will begin offering flights to New York JFK and Orlando from July 29th, followed by Barbados from the 20th of October and plans to offer a route to Boston from summer 2022. The carrier which is also operating under a UK Air Operators Certificate (AOC) added that these new routes to New York JFK and Boston will allow customers to “maximise onward connectivity” to around 58 destinations.

In a company statement, Chief Commercial Officer for Aer Lingus, David Shepherd said, “We are delighted to offer high quality, direct, non-stop business and leisure travel options at very reasonable prices for travellers and holidaymakers across the North of England.” He added saying “We believe our transatlantic offering is one of the best in the marketplace comprising both business and economy cabins.

Aer Lingus will use the airline’s brand new single-aisle Airbus A321LR for flights to New York JFK and Boston, while flights to Orlando and Barbados will be operated by the larger Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Both of these new Aer Lingus routes will be in direct competition with Virgin Atlantic. Manchester Airport Managing Director, Karen Smart stated that, “Pre-pandemic there were more than 5.5 million who crossed the Atlantic each year via Manchester and so to be able to offer these services with a new carrier is great news. In addition, Aer Lingus’s commitment to the UK’s northern gateway results in the creation of 120 much-needed jobs.
