Months after the takeover of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Adani Group is set to revamp the airport with new buildings and connect the airport via water. As a plan to make Trivandrum airport world-class, the Group is proceeding with a proposal to acquire a state-of-the-art building close to the airport.

According to various sources, the deal is nearing its closure and is all set to get inked. The building is presently functioning. The Adani Group is already involved with the construction of Vizhinjam Port, located about 15 km from the airport.

The plan is to develop an existing water body that passes near Thiruvananthapuram Airport so that the airport would become accessible through the water.

Adani Group recently opened a luxurious lounge facility at Trivandrum airport. Dubbed as ‘The Bird’, the lounge is located at level 1 of the international terminal, near gate number 5. Besides providing world-class amenities, the lounge has live counters and a buffet for South, North Indian and continental cuisine.

Adani Group took over the management and operations of Thiruvananthapuram Airport on October 14. Under the agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Group has the right to manage, operate and develop the airport for the next 50 years. The Group revealed that adding more airlines to Trivandrum airport will be its priority. According to the sources, several talks are in the pipeline with international airlines, and soon, they are confident of commencing operations of a few airlines.

Established in 1932, the Thiruvananthapuram airport is one of the oldest airports in India. It received the ‘international airport’ tag in 1991.
