16-year-old driver caught speeding with cannabis and alcohol in the car

Date:

A 16-year-old Mapleton Township resident is facing several charges, including speeding and driving with both cannabis and alcohol readily available, following an OPP traffic stop in Perth East last Sunday.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on July 5,  Perth County OPP officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Perth Road 121. During the stop, police discovered the driver had a G1 licence and did not have a qualified, accompanying driver in the vehicle. Police also found alcohol and cannabis in the vehicle, and in the possession of two passengers.

As a result, the 16-year-old Mapleton driver was charged with speeding, not having a qualified driver in the vehicle, and having both liquor and cannabis readily available.

A 17-year-old passenger from Perth East was also charged with being in possession of liquor while an 18-year-old passenger from Mapleton was charged with being in possession of cannabis and liquor. Both were under Ontario’s legal age of 19 for possessing cannabis and alcohol.

The driver and both passengers received provincial offences notices for the violations.
