Cédric “RpK” Guipouy has announced his retirement from competitive Counter-Strike, drawing a close on his career which started in 2006 and spanned across two versions of the game: Source and Global Offensive.
“Today marks the end of a long & beautiful career. It started long ago, had ups & downs, but I always loved it,” RpK said on Twitter. “I’m grateful for your support over the years, I won’t forget it.”
During the era of Counter-Strike: Source, RpK gained notoriety as one of the best players in the world, pushing VeryGames to international dominance. He made the switch to Global Offensive in 2012, but retired from the game after a couple of months and a string of runner-up finishes to NIP.
His unlikely return to competition was triggered by Hovik “KQLY” Tovmassian‘s VAC ban in 2014, seeing his former teammates call him back into action with Titan. While RpK never regained the star-level he boasted in CS: Source, his Global Offensive career was illustrious enough on its own for him to be considered one of the most notable French players.
