DETROIT – An x-ray scan of a semi truck at a Detroit cargo facility revealed more than a ton of marijuana hidden inside boxes labelled “foam pool toys,” police said.

Officials with Customs and Border Protection scanned the inbound semi truck May 11 at the Fort Street Cargo Facility, which is on the Detroit side of the Ambassador Bridge.

The semi truck was inspected by officers and a K-9 team. They discovered 2,175 pounds of marijuana concealed within boxes “manifested as foam pool toys,” according to authorities.

Official seized the marijuana and the trailer.

“This seizure underscores CBP’s longstanding commitment to the border security mission,” Port Director Devin Chamberlain said. “The men and women of CBP continue to work diligently to keep our nation and our communities safe.”
