YOUNG richlister and serial entrepreneur Jordan Grives and wife Amelia, have paid $6.5m for a historic Queenslander in inner Brisbane as they embark on a new phase of life.

The restored 1889 property named ‘Chelhaven’ in Chelmer is a landmark heritage-listed address in the suburb and was previously owned by Place Estate Agents’ top agent Paul Curtain.

Jordan Navybox of Cohen Handler Queensland introduced Mr Grives to the five-bedroom, five-bathroom property on 1600 sqm, but both and Mr and Mrs Grives declined to comment when contacted.

The sale was negotiated by Ann-Karyn Fraser of Place Estate Agents on behalf of Mr Curtain.

The property was designed by architects Oakden, Addison and Kemp, who are credited with the Old Museum Building, formally known as the Exhibition Building.

The restoration of the home has been paired with a 2020 construction that introduces an internal and external hub over two new levels.Mr Grives has also just sold his Teneriffe apartment for $2.4m.

He first listed the property in May 2019 for offers over $1.59m and then advertised it for lease for $1500 a week in February.

Records show he paid $1.8m for the three-bedroom loft-style unit in 2018.

It has been a big year for Mr Grives, who sold his shares in tech company, Uniti Group, in August last year for more than $70m and married his wife, Amelia, on Hayman Island in September.

After years of being involved in start-ups, Mr Grives is concentrating on his investment vehicle, Capital J Investments, which he has set up as a privately owned family office in Waterfront Place to handle his wealth.

He and Amelia will divide their time between Brisbane and Noosaville, where they own another waterfront home together.

The 34-year-old has long been a fixture on Young Rich Lists, with the Australian Financial Review’s list ranking him last year at 63 with a fortune of $81m.

It all started when he was 18 and he founded Fonebox Group, an inbound telecommunications service for businesses.Mr Grives sold Fonebox to US internet services firm J2 Global in 2016 for $30m and founded Fone Dynamics, a messaging and call analytics business.

In 2019, he sold that to the then South Australian-based internet services provider Uniti Wireless in a rare 100 per cent scrip deal that saw his investment grow 10x throughout the thre years — later renamed Uniti Group — and joined the company’s executive team.
