Xyp9x re-signs with Astralis until 2025: “I can now use all my energy and focus to get the team back where we belong”

Date:

Astralis have announced that Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth has signed a new contract with the organization, extending his current deal with the team until 2025.

He is the second Astralis player to ink an extension with the organization recently, joining Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander in the Danish powerhouse’s long-term vision after the in-game leader signed a new three-year deal lasting until mid-2024.

Xyp9x has been a part of Astralis since its inception in 2016

The news comes as a surprising turn of events after Xyp9x revealed that his future with Astralis was uncertain only two months ago, just before he sat out ESL Pro League Season 14 to make room for the team’s new AWPer, Philip “Lucky” Ewald.

The 26-year-old has since returned to the active roster after gla1ve took some time off the server in anticipation of the birth of his child, and he is set to attempt to defend Astralis‘ Major title at PGL Major Stockholm later this month, as this time Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen has been placed on the sidelines.

“Astralis has been a part of me for so many years. It is no secret that I had other options, but I am truly excited that we have come to an agreement that means I can stay right here, where I feel at home,” Xyp9x commented on his new deal with Astralis.

“With my future settled, I can now use all my energy and focus to get the team back where we belong, starting with the coming tournament in Stockholm.”

“Andreas is a key to what we want to be as a team today, but also in relation to the long-term development,” Astralis’ Sports Director, Kasper Hvidt, said. “Therefore, it is a great satisfaction to everybody here, we have reached an agreement on a contract that gives us time and room to get even more out of Andreas’ skills and personality. Astralis is in his blood, and I believe we will see a re-vitalized Xyp9x going forwards.”

With gla1ve, Xyp9x, and Lucky all having recently signed new deals and reports linking former Complexity member Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke with a move to Astralis, it appears that only one more spot on the main roster from 2022 onwards is uncertain. Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen and Emil “Magisk” Reif‘s current contracts are set to expire at the end of the year, while Bubzkji‘s two-year deal lasts until mid-2022.
