World’s biggest sports LED display misfires during match

Date:

The giant halo LED screen at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles remained blank for much of the NFL pre-season game between the LA Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys at the weekend.

The Infinity Screen by Samsung was blank from before kick-off until the third quarter of the match as a result of an outage with the “internal broadcast system”, according to a report on the Sixteen:Nine blog.

Once the display had been restored, the stadium’s social media team jokingly tweeted that there had been a problem with adjusting the antenna.

The 6,500 sq m double-sided centre-hung videoboard is said to contain the most LED ever used in a sports or entertainment venue, and to have the largest LED content playback system ever deployed.

With nearly 80 million pixels spaced 8mm from centre to centre, each panel can be individually or congruently programmed with statistics, live and/or animated content. The videoboard’s size and shape make it wider than the field of play and it can be seen from anywhere in the stadium.
