MEGA BANK BEYOND GAMING VS FNATIC (GROUP A)

Southeast Asia’s 2nd seed took on FNC’s strong 3-1 score on the top of the final day of tiebreaker Play-Ins. BYG did their best to make their torpedo comp with Kai’sa, Sejuani, and Sylas work, but the game wasn’t anywhere near close as one would expect. Razork’s Graves took aggressive control over the jungle and stole camps very early game. FNC made up for a slight lull in the game and won midgame clashes for rift herald and a hard top lane push which decided the game. Brilliant teamplays by the PSC representatives weren’t able to keep up with Fnatic’s individual powerhouses. FNC’s complete control over the entire map maintained their lead throughout the game. Despite BYG Husha’s well-played Baron steal, any planned effort by the team wasn’t able to break Fnatic’s tidal wave that carried the fan favorite to a very dominant win.

  • Teams: BYG 1 – 0 FNC
  • Time: 32:50
  • Kills: 7 – 23
  • Turrets: 1 – 10
  • Gold: 51.5k – 66.3k
  • Dragons: 1 – 3
  • Barons: 1 – 1

LOUD VS CHIEFS ESPORTS (GROUP A)

The Chiefs’ valiant effort to break their losing streak gave 240,000 viewers one of the most action-packed shows of Worlds 2022. First blood by LLL at top lane helped Robo’s Aatrox start scaling up. Croc’s dominant jungling secured ganks and an uncontested Rift Herald after hitting Level 6 first. Loud’s successive team engagements didn’t give Chiefs (and the shoutcasters) any space to breathe, and the CBLOL leaders crushed the opposition under their tier 2 turrets even before Baron appeared on the map. Stakes were high, and CHF fought tooth and nail against LLL’s game-ending lead. But despite Topoon and Taes leading their team in opportunistic 4v2s, Loud earned their name by earning thunderous applause.

  • Teams: LLL 1 – 0 CHF
  • Time: 38:29
  • Kills: 29 – 18
  • Turrets: 9 – 2
  • Gold: 60.5k – 50.8k
  • Dragons: 2 – 2
  • Barons: 1 – 0

DETONATION FM VS EVIL GENIUSES (GROUP A)

DFM’s ban on Azir and Kai’sa removed two of the most viable picks for EG’s hard hitters, and it still turned out to be a close match. An early game clash at top river saw EG’s raw power go up against DFM’s good positioning, which set the pace of the entire game. The Japanese team recognized EG’s snowball capabilities and decided to avoid risky engagements before midgame. And it paid off tremendously. DFM played it safe throughout midgame and managed an even kill score while getting a gold lead. LJL prevented any of their turrets from falling even after 30 mins of gameplay, while EG used every opportunity to initiate team fights. The entire game was a consistently strategic back and forth, with DFM impressively taking advantage of EG’s confidence to bounce back every time they got knocked down.

  • Teams: DFM 1 – 0 EG
  • Time: 40:13
  • Kills: 18 – 14
  • Turrets: 7 – 1
  • Gold: 72.8k – 67.2k
  • Dragons: 3 – 2
  • Barons: 1 – 1

ISTANBUL WILDCATS VS ISURUS (GROUP B)

Wildcats and Isurus competed for their first win in their final match for Worlds 2022. Isurus took first dragon and won a clash after Wildcats took Rift Herald, with smart plays seen from Gnell’s Wukong. The TCL team stayed slippery during teamfights, and narrowly avoided a full wipe early game. Ferret’s Maokai had perfect zoning and isolated strong opponents with his ultimate ability. But with every pick off the Wildcats, Isurus gathered their strength with their gold lead and came back stronger. With one clash after another, ADD’s Aatrox and Seiya’s Sylas scattered the enemy team in every fight, earning ISG a scrappy win as both teams exited the tournament.

  • Teams: IW 0 – 1 ISG
  • Time: 31:10
  • Kills: 11 – 20
  • Turrets: 1 – 8
  • Gold: 49.4k – 59.6k
  • Dragons: 2 – 2
  • Barons: 0 – 1

DRX VS MAD LIONS (GROUP A)

MAD faced Worlds 2022’s most formidable team in a powerful show of resistance that could have gone either way. MAD Armut smartly chose Mordekaiser top to help counter BeryL’s Yuumi. Deft’s Sivir brought the thunder down bottom lane, while Nisqy handled midgame ganks from multiple DRX members. It remained a close match until MAD won a 1-4 lead and a 22-minute baron thanks to the Morde’s Demonic Visage+Sunfire build. The excitement among Lions fans was palpable, but a strong and coordinated teamfight from the enemy on top lane dealt a devastating blow to MAD’s tier 2 tower. This wrecked the EU team’s rhythm, and gave the undefeated challengers enough of a window to take Inhibitor.

  • Teams: DRX 0 – 1 MAD
  • Time: 33:43
  • Kills: 14 – 10
  • Turrets: 7 – 5
  • Gold: 60.3k – 60.8k
  • Dragons: 0 – 4
  • Barons: 0 – 2

ROYAL NEVER GIVE UP VS SAIGON BUFFALO (GROUP B)

RNG’s team-oriented composition won them their 4th Play-Ins victory. The LPL rep scored 2 kills before the 5-minute mark and held control over the map. They scored the first Rift Herald and the first drake almost uncontested. This early power spike was able to let Royal match SGB Shogun’s deadly power differential, but even he found it hard to carry SGB during every clash. The Vietnamese 2nd seed was able to turn teamfights more efficiently as their fast and loose playmaking got them thru midgame. But after more turrets fell to RNG, they scrambled to defend against a Baron-buffed final wave.

  • Teams: RNG 1 – 0 SGB
  • Time: 32:59
  • Kills: 9 – 9
  • Turrets: 10 – 2
  • Gold: 63.5k – 53.4k
  • Dragons: 3 – 2
  • Barons: 1 – 0

EVIL GENIUSES VS DETONATION FM (GROUP B)

In their rematch, Evil Geniuses went up against Japan’s 1st seed DFM. EG’s macroplay at bottom and top lane saw Vulcan’s Thresh shine, and Kaori’s control down middle lane gave the team uncontested reign over drake. The Akali-Aphelios-Aatrox comp scaled in strong contrast to DFM’s as the game went on. Great outplays from Jojopyun and the rest of the NA group in midgame clashes saw Evil Geniuses win the gold and tower advantage, and DFM could do nothing but slowly lose.

  • Teams: EG 1 – 0 DFM
  • Time: 28:32
  • Kills: 22 – 8
  • Turrets: 9 – 3
  • Gold: 57.2k – 47.4k
  • Dragons: 3 – 1
  • Barons: 1 – 0

LOUD VS evil geniuses (GROUP B)

The final match before groups had a shaky start for Loud. Robo’s Sejuani was massive in setting up ganks for their top and middle lane. EG’s Impact scored a sub-10 minute double kill as Mordekaiser against the crowd favorites and stacked the kill count. Impact’s top lane tank was an absolute juggernaut that made it difficult for Loud to get in close and win objectives. Even when it seemed that Loud was winning clashes, the Mordekainen’s AP burn from Visage helped turn it around until the score difference led to Loud’s crushing defeat.

  • Teams: LLL 0 – 1 EG
  • Time:
  • Kills: 6 – 26
  • Turrets: 1 – 11
  • Gold: 41.3k – 58.6k
  • Dragons: 1 – 2
  • Barons: 0 – 1
