Worlds 2022: Evil Geniuses wins the tiebreaker in a rematch against DetonatioN FocusMe

Date:

Evil Geniuses will now go up against LOUD to determine who goes second in Group A.

DetonatioN FocusMe couldn’t make it two-for-two against Evil Geniuses, losing the tiebreaker against the LCS Spring 2022 champions. This now puts DFM into the best-of-five elimination series where they will wait for the loser between EG and LOUD in the second and final tiebreaker of the day. The winner will move on to the best-of-five qualification series on the group stage.

EG made sure to not repeat the same mistakes they did against DFM earlier today. Both teams stuck with the same top lane champions, Aatrox for EG and Gnar for DFM. With major changes made on both sides, it was EG this time who got off on the front foot with the first blood. Even Joseph “Jojopyun” Pyun with Akali managed to get a solo kill on Lee “Yaharong” Chan-ju who was on Vex.

From the early game, EG looked like they had learned from their past mistakes. Instead of allowing DFM’s deathball push strategy to work out, they countered that with great gameplay this time around. For most of the teamfights, EG came out on top for the majority of them. Suffice it to say, a well-executed team performance from EG. Considering the fact that they are playing with a stand-in, EG has managed to perform when it mattered most.

Muhammed “Kaori” Hasan Şentürk went on a rampage with Aphelios, taking half of the team’s total kills alongside four assists. However, the unsung heroes of EG’s first tiebreaker win were down to both Kacper “Inspired” Słoma and Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme. The seasoned veterans were flawless against DFM with neither of them dying once while also posting 13 and 15 assists respectively.

They will now be facing LOUD in the next tiebreaker with this deciding on who finishes second and misses out on facing three-time MSI champions, Royal Never Give Up.
