World2Fly Takes Its First Airbus A350 Ahead Of Mid-June Launch



On June 7th Air Lease Corporation (ALC) announced the delivery of one new Airbus A350-900 to new Spanish leisure airline, World2Fly. This will be the first of two A350s to be operated by the new carrier, which received its Air Operators License (AOC) in May. Operations are set to commence from June 19th.

What do we know about World2Fly’s A350s?

There are a few tidbits of information available for World2Fly’s first Airbus A350-900. We know that this aircraft is registered in Spain as EC-NOI. According to data, the jet was initially registered VP-BXS and destined for Russian carrier Aeroflot. However, the aircraft was not taken up by the airline.

While it seems that Aeroflot had a diverse, three-class configuration (28 business, 24 premium economy, 264 economy), World2Fly will operate its A350s with a single-class configuration: 432 economy class seats, all having a published recline of 15.23 cm. While this is one of the more dense configurations, at least it stops short of a 10-abreast arrangement, as seen on French bee and Air Caraibes A350s.

Additionally, ch-aviation data points out that the airline’s A350-900s will have in-seat video or seatback video screens. This is confirmed by taking a look at the airline’s 360-degree cabin view feature on its website.

Even though the airline is offering one class of service, it will offer 27 “XL Seats.” These are extra-legroom seats found at the front row of each bulkhead. Of course, as is standard with any bulkhead seating, the tray table and inflight video come out from within the armrest. Airlines also typically ban passengers from storing baggage in the area in front of these seats.

Accompanied by an A330-300

Sources also note that the airline has a single A330-300 in its fleet, registered EC-LXR. This 11.3-year-old aircraft had previously flown with carriers Air Europa, Orbest Orizonia, Garuda Indonesia, and Iberworld, among others.

This particular aircraft will be configured with an all-economy layout of 388 seats. Unfortunately, unlike its newer A350 counterparts, World2Fly’s A330 does not appear to be fitted with inflight video. We do know, however, that this older jet has a seat pitch of 30 inches with a maximum of eight seats across.

First flight in less than two weeks

With the airline’s recent granting of its air operator’s certificate (AOC), its inaugural service date is now set for June 19th. The airline will fly its Airbus widebodies from Madrid and Lisbon to destinations in Latin America.

The airline’s first three destinations are as follows:

  • Havana, Cuba
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • Cancun, Mexico

All of these routes will be served twice weekly from Madrid and once weekly from Lisbon from 19th June onwards.

Air Canada Inaugurates Montreal To Cairo Route



On Friday, Canadian national flag carrier Air Canada flew its first non-stop flight to Cairo, Egypt using a 255-seat Boeing 787-800 aircraft. The inaugural flight is the first year-round service that will see three flights a week between Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Cairo International Airport (CAI).

The flights will operate on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, returning to Canada a day later on a Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Besides giving the Star Alliance member a new gateway on the African continent, the new non-stop service will provide an essential link for the sizeable Egyptian community that settled in and around Montreal.

Cairo could prove to be good for Air Canada

When speaking about the new non-stop service between Montreal and Cairo Senior Vice President, Network Planning and Revenue Management of Air Canada, Mark Galardo said the following in a company statement:

“Air Canada is pleased to offer its first scheduled flights to Egypt. We are strategically rebuilding our international network by adding new routes that support leisure and visiting friends and family travel. With few non-stop options to Egypt from North America, we see opportunities to launch new non-stop flights to Cairo from Montreal, where there is an established Egyptian community.

“We have also built convenient connections to and from our Cairo flights from across Canada and the US at our Montreal hub. This new route shows our commitment to rebuilding our international network and our Montreal hub, which have been dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Montreal to Cairo flights will operate on the following schedule:

  • Flight number AC74 will depart Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) at 17:50 and arrive at Cairo International Airport (CAI) at 10:15 plus one day on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
  • Flight number AC75 will depart Cairo International Airport (CAI) at 12:00 and arrive at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) at 17:00 on a Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Passengers can connect with Egyptair

The flights have been deliberately timed to optimize connectivity across Air Canada’s North American network and to allow Air Canada passengers arriving in Cairo to connect on Egyptair flights to the following airports:

  • Aswan International Airport (ASW)
  • Hurghada International Airport (HRG)
  • Luxor International Airport (LXR)
  • Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH)
  • Bahrain International Airport (BAH)
  • Queen Alia International Airport (AMM)

Egyptair is also a member of the Star Alliance network and codeshares with Air Canada on the Montreal to Cairo flight.

On the ten-and-a-half-hour Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight, Air Canada will offer three classes of service, Air Canada signature class, premium economy, and economy class. All Air Canada flights arriving and departing Cairo International Airport (CAI) will operate out of Terminal 3, designated for Star Alliance flights.

When speaking about the new non-stop flights between Canada and Egypt with the Daily News Commercial Counsellor and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of Canada to Egypt, Jasmine Wahhab said:

“This new direct route to Egypt, a growing economic and industrial hub steeped in history and culture, confirms Montreal’s standing as a vibrant world-class city and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport status as a prime gateway to North America.

“The non-stop year-round Montreal to Cairo link will also facilitate the expansion of Canadian companies in the robust Egyptian market, enabling them to secure major commercial opportunities in key industry sectors, such as ICT, agri-food, clean-tech, mining, and transportation. Air Canada became the only airline based in the Americas to fly directly to Egypt.”

Egypt is open to tourists

Interestingly the Air Canada non-stop flight to Cairo is the only one operated by a North American airline. Egyptair, however, does offer a non-stop flight between Cairo and New York.

Perhaps due to the lingering COVID-19 pandemic, the inaugural flight only had 150 passengers aboard. This might change as we move into the summer months as Egypt is open for tourism, with the only requirement being a visa and proof of a negative PCR test taken no longer than 72 hours before arriving in the country.

Emirates ramps up operations over summer to serve strong demand



Emirates is ramping up its operations and expanding services across its network to meet strong leisure travel demand over the summer, as entry restrictions ease for  travelers. The airline has been gradually and safely rebuilding its route network and advancing its strategy to optimize its presence in key markets to serve leisure and growing business travel demand, as well as segments of travelers visiting friends and relatives. Today, Emirates serves 115 global passenger destinations, and by the end of July, it will have recovered close to 90% of its pre-pandemic network, operating 880 weekly services across 124 cities.

The airline will resume services to seven cities in July including: Venice on July 1; Phuket, Nice, Orlando and Mexico City on July 2; Lyon on July 9 and Malta on July 14. Emirates will also launch flights to Miami, starting July 22.

More flights to top destinations

Across its network, the airline will boost capacity and expand its schedules by layering on frequencies for the summer, connecting more customers with popular destinations and adding more choice and convenience as they plan their long-awaited holidays.

Emirates will be adding frequencies to 12 cities across Europe, Africa and North America as more destinations re-open for international visitors, and offer quarantine free travel. Emirates destinations with enhanced schedules for July and August include: German cities Munich, Dusseldorf and Hamburg; Zurich; Vienna; Prague; Madrid; Stockholm; Brussels; Lisbon; Chicago and Tunis. In Europe, the airline currently flies to more than 30 cities in 20 countries including popular holiday destinations Greece, Spain, Italy, France and Malta, which offer quarantine free arrivals.

In the United States, with rapid vaccine rollouts and the reopening of air travel at a rate outpacing the world, Emirates will continue to build its presence. With the addition of Miami to its network in July, Emirates will operate over 70 weekly flights to the US, offering over 26,000 seats across 12 gateways including Boston, Chicago, New York (JFK and Newark), Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC and Orlando. The airline is also ramping up its trans-Atlantic operations Milan-New York and Athens-Newark to meet large passenger volumes and high demand across its premium cabins.

An expanded A380 summer network

Emirates will also boost its A380 network this summer, bringing its flagship experience to 15 cities on 129 weekly services. During the summer, the airline plans to activate over 30 of its A380s to augment its 151 strong fleet of Boeing 777s. The Emirates A380 experience continues to be sought after by customers, with many going out of their way to book their travel on an Emirates A380 for its signature products, spaciousness, quietness and unmatched levels of comfort.

Emirates will be deploying the A380 to the following cities during the summer period: Cairo, Jeddah, Amman, Guangzhou, London Heathrow, Manchester, Frankfurt, Vienna, Paris, Munich, Moscow, New York JFK, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Toronto. Stepping up of deployment of the A380 demonstrates the importance of the aircraft to Emirates’ recovery and growth strategy. The A380 ensures the efficient use of capacity on high demand routes, and enables Emirates to deliver its sought-after A380 experience to more customers, helping the airline to maintain its leadership position in key cities across its network.

Reuters: Cathay Pacific working with Airbus on single-pilot system for long-haul

Which Countries Are Open For Americans?



United States air travel has seen a strong return in recent weeks. Domestic capacity is undoubtedly on the right path, and now International services are starting to return, with the US relaxing its restrictions to numerous destinations.

Here is a look at which nations are allowing travel from the US by region. Even though policies are improving, it’s important to note that many of these countries still have health requirements to enter. Measures include health questionnaires, quarantines, vaccinations, and testing.

North America

We reported yesterday that Canada postponed its reopening of non-essential travel from across the border until at least July 21st. So, travel from the US is still restricted till then.

The land border between the US and Mexico also remains closed until at least June 21st. However, there is a smooth process when it comes to air. There are no testing or quarantine requirements in place for flights to Mexico from the US.

Passengers can also travel to several destinations across the Caribbean. Jamaica, Haiti, Grenada, Dominica, Curacao, Barbados, The Bahamas, Aruba, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands are all allowing travel.

Several Central American countries are also allowing travel from the US, at least if certain requirements are met. Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Nicaragua allow entry.

South America

Airlines have been ramping up activity between the US and South America over the last year. Moreover, certain services have also been a hot topic.

Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, and Peru allow some form of general travel if passengers undergo health measures. Notably, Chile is now only open to Chilean nationals as it remains under a state of emergency for June.


Africa was one of the regions that shut down services later on compared to others. Since last summer, activity has primarily been focused on domestic and regional routes.

Botswana, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, and Guinea are all countries that allow travel for Americans. Other countries across the continent allowing entry from the US include Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.

Middle East

The Middle East is home to some of the most important carriers when it comes to connections. Relying on international routes, airlines in the area have been keen for long-haul destinations to remain open.

Bahrain, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, Jordan, and United Arab Emirates allow entry. Qatar remains heavily restricted, but many passengers still transit smoothly through its Doha hub.

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are the only two Central Asian countries allowing travel. Passengers have to adhere to the testing and screening requirements of the two nations.

The Maldives, Armenia, Nepal, Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Thailand are some of the only countries across the continent to allow general entry from the US. The region remains heavily restricted.

French Polynesia is one of the few destinations open to US tourists. Notably, the likes of Australia and New Zealand have ongoing travel bans.

The European Union yesterday formally recommended that member states lift restrictions on US travelers. Therefore, 27 countries under the union may lift travel bans for Americans. However, individual nations still have the power to implement restrictions.

Before this call, EU and non-EU members across Europe to allow travel from the US include Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Georgia, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.

Back on track

Altogether, even though travel is undoubtedly opening up for US travelers, it’s best to always check the requirements with airlines and authorities before booking a ticket and flying out. Policies are always changing amid the ongoing situation.
