World2Fly gears up for July launch with roll-out of Airbus A350-900

Date:

World2Fly’s first Airbus A350 has rolled out of the paint-shop in Toulouse, in preparation for its delivery next month. This is the airline’s second aircraft after an Airbus A330 (EC-LXR). The Spanish start-up is due to add a second A350 to its fleet next year.

The carrier was founded by the Iberostar Group in order to provide leisure connections to the Americas from both Spain and Portugal – to destinations including Punta Cana, Havana and Cancun. The aforementioned destinations will see twice weekly connections from Madrid as of July 19 and once weekly services from mid-July from Lisbon. From the Portuguese capital, flights to Cancun are expected from 11 July, Havana from 17 July and Punta Cana from 19 July.

The airline’s fleet will comprise of just two aircraft until at least spring 2022, according to local media, with an additional Airbus A350-900 due to join the fleet in May next year. Initially, World2Fly will base one aircraft at each of its two bases, with the Airbus A350-900 being positioned in Madrid and the A330-300 in Lisbon.

The Airbus A330-300 was delivered to the carrier back in January. The aircraft, registered EC-LXR, arrived in Barcelona from Dublin and was the first to adorn the World2Fly livery. EC-LXR had previously operated for Air Europa, Garuda Indonesia and XL Airways.

World2Fly’s Airbus A350-900 comes directly from Airbus, however. Leased from Air Lease Corporation, the plane was originally destined for Aeroflot but was eventually allocated to the Spanish start-up.
