WINNERS League Season 4 viewership, results, partnerships

WINNERS League Season 4 is now in the books after both North America and Europe crowned their respective divisional champions.

WINNERS League continued its rapid growth in Season 4, seeing a marked increase in viewership and user interaction over Season 3. The league totaled 5,470,000 million minutes of content watched over the course of its fourth season, a feat even more impressive considering its switch to a condensed format.

The official WINNERS League Twitch channel also hit a new milestone in its fourth season, tallying 1,203,628 total channel views.

The league saw growth across the board despite a more streamlined approach to play. Season 4 limited both the number of teams competing in its invite division and shortened its season to ease some of the pressure that competitive CSGO teams encounter with the game’s busy tournament schedule.

The response to the change was overwhelmingly positive from both the participating teams and their players.

The league also more than doubled its number of followers on the official WINNERS League Twitch channel.

WINNERS League project lead Nick Gorbunov offered that WINNERS League’s fourth season was its most successful Counter-Strike season yet.

“What we’ve tried to do for WINNERS League is to give every single team a veteran competitive experience. With that, we’ve given fans an opportunity to experience a new and improved HUD and gamestate integration to help draw them to teams they may not have otherwise had the opportunity to see,” Gorbunov said.

The switch to WINNERS League’s new format worked in tandem with the league’s separate divisions to better assist the esport’s ecosystem in creating new paths for nascent teams to grow.

Season 4 was a turning point in that respect, as many of the participating teams broke out onto the international scene. The league’s two champions, Nemiga and Chaos, have shown up in international competitions time and again, with both squads making marked progress. Chaos even defeated North America’s top team, Team Liquid, at DreamHack Masters Spring 2020.

In the grand finals of season four, the WINNERS League European division saw a rematch of its third season’s grand final with ESPADA facing off against Nemiga for the title once again. But this year, it was Nemiga that came out on top.

In the North American bracket, Chaos Esports Club squared off against Triumph Gaming. Here, it was Chaos who took home the title, giving the team three tournament wins in recent months.

The season also produced some jaw-dropping moments, including this one from Chaos’ Nathan “leaf” Orf in the grand finals versus Triumph Gaming.

“We’d like to send out a big thank you to our participating teams, our partners and sponsors, and especially all the fans that tuned in to watch our events,” Gorbunov said.

Both regional champions will receive custom coins to commemorate their title runs in the coming months.

Season 4 was also the first season that WINNERS League partnered with VBet for distribution of the league’s betting odds to major betting providers. The partnership granted massive exposure to both WINNERS League and VBet.

Eduard Avagyan of VBet spoke proudly on the association.

“The deep information and statistics provided by WINNERS League was essential to our distribution, as we were able to create a great tournament through our cooperation with WINNERS League, and we look forward to working with them on future seasons,” Avagyan said.

Serge Vardanyan, founder and CEO of WIN, believes that WINNERS League is essential to the continued success and growth of Counter-Strike esports, especially with other top tournament organizers placing more focus on the tier one CSGO scenes.

“Even without including our foreign streaming partners, WINNERS League totaled over 1,200,000 views over the course of Season 4. We saw a huge growth in interest in the WINNERS League product, and we’re very happy with the response,” Vardanyan said.

Vardanyan further cited the importance of supporting CSGO teams on the rise, giving opportunities to teams capable of challenging the very best in the world but not yet receiving ample enough opportunities.

WIN offers four main products. WIN.gg is an esports media platform featuring editorial content, a database with thousands of player and team entries, and live scores and schedules that allow users to track the latest competitions in real-time. The second is WINNERS League, a competitive league structure that is based on the FACEIT platform. The third is Winners.bet, a sportsbook built from the ground up specifically for esports and its native audience. There is also Winners.net, a comprehensive guide to esports betting sites.

League of Legends World Championship to feature immersive Mixed Reality experience through Rokid Vision glasses

October 22, 2020 – Rokid, a provider of augmented and mixed reality (AR/MR) glasses, has today announced that its technology will be available for fans to use at this year’s League of Legends (LoL) World Championship tournaments and opening ceremony for the event finals held in Shanghai, China.

Fans of the popular MMORPG game will be able to use a pair of Rokid Vision AR glasses to experience LoL live at the event and to witness an immersive experience featuring a dragon from the game hovering over the Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower and flying up to them in their seats, transforming the spectators experience and transporting fans to the Summoner’s Rift, an in-game location from LoL.

Furthermore, whilst wearing Rokid Vision, fans will be able to witness the space surrounding them change to include personalized features such as highlights of the game, close-ups of a favorite player, team names, logos, and other information.

Rokid first introduced its Vision mixed reality glasses at AWE USA 2019. Through a combination of Rokid’s binocular optics, AR and AI capabilities, the glasses extend existing user interfaces with augmented and mixed reality (via a USB-C connection) for devices including phones, laptops, gaming consoles, helping to enhance productivity, entertainment, and gaming. The glasses are also 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) enabled, allowing users to experience more natural interactions with the 3D virtual content that is projected within their visual field.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, there are limited seats at the 2020 League of Legends Global Finals, and many fans cannot attend in person to watch. This is therefore the first time that League of Legends fans will be able to use AR glasses to watch the finals, thanks to Rokid.

This is not the company’s first time employing the use of its AR and MR solutions to offer event fans new experiences though. In 2018, Rokid, in partnership with Teslasuit, created an immersive experience for Formula 1 fans. The experience utilized data and camera footage collected from Formula 1 vehicles, and using the Rokid Vision glasses and Teslasuit’s somatosensory haptic suit, reproduced tactile feedback that enabled users to experience the visual impact and physical experience of driving a Formula 1 car.

‘Pokémon Go’ gets AR Mapping tasks to enable more realistic effects

Pokémon Go players may see a new tag marking some PokéStops next time they check the app. Niantic has officially launched AR Mapping tasks for level 20 Trainers and up, almost five months after the company announced that it’s launching the feature. When they spin a PokéStop marked with the “AR Mapping” tag, they’ll get a Field Research task that will require them to open the AR scanning screen and to explore the area.

Niantic first announced that it’s working on a PokéStop Scan feature back in May in an effort to improve Pokémon Go’s augmented reality effects. By getting players to scan locations, the developer will get what it needs to be able to create 3D maps of PokéStops. They can then use that data to make critters interact with real—world objects, so they can hide behind a tree trunk instead of just float in front of it. Niantic started testing the better AR effects feature called “Reality Blending” back in May, as well, though it’s limited to users with certain newer Android phones.

The developer says good scans last 20 to 30 seconds and keep the PokéStop in the center of the frame. It’s also encouraging users to walk a full 360 degrees around the location. Niantic Kids accounts won’t have access to the feature yet, even for level 20 Trainers — that’s most likely a good thing, since there’s still a pandemic happening — but parents will get the option to toggle it on in the future.

AOC aims to get out the vote by streaming Among Us with pokimane and HasanAbi

We are about seven months into a pandemic and just two weeks from a presidential election. At this point, surprises are a dime a dozen. So it should feel very 2020 that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is about to stream Among Us, the hit game of 2020, on Twitch alongside mega-streamer pokimane and political analyst HasanAbi.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted yesterday that she was looking for people to play the popular game with in an effort to get out the vote, noting that she’s never played before but that it looks fun.

Streamer pokimane, who has 6 million followers on Twitch and whose YouTube videos regularly see more than 1 million views each, responded to the tweet with a figurative raised hand.

HasanAbi, a very popular political commentator on Twitch, who has more than 380,000 Twitter followers, also chimed in to the conversation saying that they’re already making a lobby. It wasn’t long before Rep. Ilhan Omar raised her hand, too.

A good game of Among Us (imagine that someone mixed a fairly basic multiplayer video game with a murder mystery party) usually requires 10 players, so the other six players are still TBD. But the Verge reports that a handful of other streamers (such as DrLupo, Felicia Day, Greg Miller, James Charles, and Neekolul) also lined up to play with AOC.

According to Ocasio-Cortez, the stream is all about getting out the vote. And this isn’t the first time that she’s used video games to connect with her followers. AOC opened up her DMs to all 6.8 million of her followers back in May to let them send her an invite to their island, and she visited them.

Millennial voters (and Gen Z) skew toward backing the Biden / Harris ticket, and AOC is coming to them by getting on Twitch and streaming one of the rocket ship games of this year.

The stream starts at 9pm ET/6pm PT and can be found here.

And you can check if you’re registered to vote here.

Update 9:01pm ET: AOC hasn’t even started playing the game yet and has nearly 250,000 concurrent viewers.
