Will The Elder Scrolls 6 release on PlayStation 5 (PS5) or has Bethesda Softworks’ sale to Microsoft sealed the franchise’s fate?

Fans have been speculating on every aspect of the next installment in Bethesda Softworks’ flagship RPG franchise, The Elder Scrolls, since its announcement—which seems like eons ago. The company has yet to bring forward any new information about the game since its brief teaser trailer and that, alone, has left fans hungry for any scrap they can find.

With the developer’s merge under Microsoft, fans have yet another detail to ruminate over: console exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls 6.

According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, the answer is: no.

Twitter user The Red Dragon (@TWTHEREDDRAGON) posted a screengrab of an interview with Peter Hines, senior vice president of marketing at Bethesda, stating that fans have nothing to fear when it comes to console exclusivity.

“Minecraft didn’t just stop existing on anything once Mojang got bought by Xbox,” he said, drawing a comparison between the two franchises within their similar situations.

While Starfield has been announced as a Microsoft Xbox and PC exclusive, Hines doubted that it wouldn’t ever make the jump to PlayStation in the future. However, he did admit that he doesn’t “know the answer to that right now.” Additionally, we cannot confirm the exact date of the interview from which The Red Dragon took the screengrab—but we assume it occurred before July.

In contrast, Jeff’s quote retweet was published on Aug. 30, stating that the game will not be released on the PS5. He has neglected to elaborate on where his information came from at the time of writing. Additionally, neither Microsoft nor Bethesda have made a statement either way.
