North American League of Legends Championship Series (NA LCS) team Phoenix1 was founded in May 2016 as a League of Legends team. In June 2018, Phoenix1 rebranded to Sentinels, they entered Hearthstone esports, and the following month, they began their Fortnite division. 

The company currently builds teams in Fortnite, Valorant, Apex Legends, and Halo and has consistently performed well, winning all regional tournaments since the initiation of competitive Valorant. They are the most successful organizations in terms of prize money earned all around the globe.

After the NA LCS became a franchised league, Phoenix1 sold its LCS spot. Following this Phoenix1 partnered with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) to launch their Overwatch League franchised team, Los Angeles Gladiators for the video game Overwatch.

In August 2019, Sentinels CEO and co-founder Rob Moore sued KSE, claiming the company had acquired Echo Fox without the founder’s knowledge. The latter left as the sole owner of Gladiators, and Sentinels split with KSE following the lawsuit.

Sentinels expanded into the competitive Halo scene in February 2020. Two months later, they established their Valorant division. Sentinels were way ahead of their competition as they won the first international event in the Valorant competitive scene.

In April 2020, Sentinels announced their VALORANT roster, and on June 1st, 2020, Sentinels finalized the team Dapr signs. On March 10th, 2021, sinatraa was suspended from the inventory during an internal investigation by Sentinels, and they acquired TenZ on loan from Cloud9 Blue for the upcoming tournament. In November 2021, Rawkus joined the team as coach before VCT: Champions.

Iceland had a perfect run at VALORANT’s first international LAN event in Reykjavik, with Sentinels finishing the tournament as undefeated winners on May 24, 2021. Recently, in February 2022, Sentinels extended player contracts by another year after their domination in the last year. 

To succeed on the big stage, the team combined their mechanical prowess, gained through years of playing Counter-Strike, with tactical decision-making and levelheaded strategy.

As a stand-in before the event and later a reported $7-figure buyout, Tyson “TenZ” Ngo played a significant role in Sentinels’ journey to VCT Champions.

But in-game leader Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan, Jared “zombies” Gitlin, Michael “dapr” Gulino, and Hunter “SicK” Mims were just as essential over the last year.

It is a rough go for Sentinels since they won Masters Reykjavik. The champions’ early exit from the group stage and a surprise loss to regional rivals Jealousy at Masters Berlin served as a wake-up call for the team.

The HCS Split 2 Finals take place on September 23rd-25th in Orlando, Florida at the Orange County Convention Center.

Spectator tickets are currently available however if you are interested in competing you’ll have to wait until Team Passes go on sale on August 15th. Don’t wait either because east coast Halo tournaments typically do very well attendance-wise, and given the significance of this event it is also likely to sell out.

Are there any Fortnite teams at Sentinels?

Sentinels launched their Fortnite division in July 2018, after signing players from the North American TT team.

Fortnite is an online video game released in 2017, developed by Epic Games. Sharing the same general gameplay and game engine that is available in three distinct game mode versions: In Fortnite Battle Royale, up to 100 players compete to be the last one standing, Fortnite: Save the World, a cooperative hybrid tower defense-shooter and survival game in which up to four players fight off zombie-like creatures and defend objects with traps and fortifications they can build, and Fortnite Creative in which players, are given complete freedom to create worlds and battle arenas.

Save the World, and Battle Royale was released as Early Access titles in 2017 when Creative released them on December 6, 2018. In less than a year, Fortnite Battle Royale attracted over 125 million players, earning hundreds of millions of dollars each month. The Save the World and Creative versions of the game were also successful for Epic Games. Overall Fortnite grossed $9 billion as of December 2019.

Sentinels is an esports organization currently competing in Apex Legends. Forward with Apex Legends, Sentinels has teams competing in Hearthstone, Fortnite, and Overwatch. On March 26th, 2019, the organization announced its Apex Legends roster with players Payne, Zombs, and Xretzi.

Sentinels Los Angeles is an American esports organization based in Angeles, California. The organization was founded as Phoenix 1 as a League of Legends team and competed in the North American League of Legends Championship Series. Phoenix1 rebranded to Sentinel in June 2018.
