It appears that Call of Duty is going the way of Fortnite for their season change event this year, holding a big event in the form of a possible game mode, according to some leaked audio files found by players. The leaks, combined with Call of Duty’s reporting of the in-game outbreak of zombies in Warzone, the writing on the wall could not be clearer.

Leaked Audio Files

Leaks of audio files from a supposedly named “Plague Mode” show the announcers paints a picture of what could be the end of Verdansk as a map in Warzone. Running since its inception, Verdansk has gone through some changes, but it’s relatively stayed the same since its release in March of 2020.

The files make mention of “Plague Zones,” as well as telling the players to “Not turn into a Zombie.” Other memorable quotes say “Verdansk is finished” and “Extraction canceled, nuke inbound for Verdansk.”

While most speculation from fans, the consensus is that the aforementioned “Plague Mode” will be a take on the game mode “Infected,” where living players will fight off player-controlled Zombies in an effort to stay alive and exit from Verdansk before the Warzone map gets turned to ashes.

On top of all of this, the evidence from Call of Duty’s own blog posts make it clear that something along these lines is most likely coming to Warzone.

Evidence is Emerging to Validate Leaks

Call of Duty has made it pretty evident that something is going on in the Warzone world as the map is ever-changing. Fans got the opportunity to play in the stadium, which was closed off until last season, where the roof was blown wide open, and the inside of the stadium became available to play in.

They’ve changed the Gulag as well, now making it less of a prison and more of a small NukeTown inside of a prison with each of the rooms players spawn in bearing a shocking resemblance to the Main Menu and central location of Black Ops 1.

Now, a ship has crashed onto the shore of Verdansk. Inside the shipwreck, is the undead. While it was just in the shipwreck, Zombies have now taken over about 33% of the map, according to Call of Duty’s Blog, with their current location extending from the shipwreck to the TV station.

This, combined with the Outbreak theme of this season in Cold War, further pushes the idea that Zombies are playing a big part in Cold War and Warzone’s current seasons.

The current theory for the outbreak event is that by the time that Verdansk is at 100% contamination will be the time that the Plague mode begins, in which we will see the end of Warzone’s Verdansk map.

The real question lies within what the possible new map will be for Warzone. Will it be an all-new location, or will the characters return to Verdansk to fight it out in a post-nuclear wasteland version of the map so many people have become accustomed to?
