Today, on Jan. 15, Walmart has taken another step forward in the metaverse with the launch of Zepeto’s first e-commerce experience for physical goods.

Zepeto is a platform where users can create digital avatars to interact in virtual worlds. With about 70 percent of its user base being Gen-Z and female, Walmart and Zepeto have teamed up to offer the ability to order real-life items from virtual Walmart clothing within the Zepeto app. Customers can log into their Walmart accounts through the app and have their purchases delivered straight to their doorsteps. In addition, purchasing select clothing items in Walmart’s physical stores will also come with free downloads of their virtual versions on Zepeto.

This marks Walmart’s third venture into metaverse e-commerce, showcasing the retailer’s commitment to exploring virtual realms for long-term opportunities. In April 2024, Walmart collaborated with Roblox to introduce the platform’s first e-commerce experience for physical products. In May 2024, Walmart launched its own virtual world platform, Walmart Realm, offering e-commerce capabilities.
