- Spanish airline Vueling will start accepting cryptocurrencies in 2023.
- To enable the new payment method on its website, Vueling has collaborated with BitPay.

Barcelona-based airline, Vueling has partnered with BitPay to allow customers make payments through cryptocurrency. According to a report, the airline will deploy the technology provided by UATP (Universal Air Travel Plan Incorporated), the worldwide network for the aviation sector.

Vueling is now Europe’s first low-cost airline to accept cryptocurrencies. The service will begin in 2023 and will be accessible through the company’s website.
The ticket prices will be displayed in Euros, and customers can pay from more than 100 wallets. Also, they can choose between 13 different cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin, ethereum, Litecoin, Shiba Inu and Wrapped Bitcoin.
Jesus Monzo, Manager of Distribution Strategy and Alliances at Vueling, said that the agreement will enable the airline to establish its position as a digital airline, once again. Having BitPay as a partner is an honor and will allow customers to pay through cryptocurrencies with security and trustability in place.
Merrick Theobald, VP of Marketing at BitPay, added that Vueling is well-versed with the ability of cryptocurrencies to transform the industry by making the payments faster, safer and affordable. The goal right now is simplifying accepting cryptocurrency as well as increasing its adoption since they are for sure the future of payments.

Vueling isn’t the first airline to enter the crypto space. airBaltic claims to be the world’s first airline to accept bitcoin through its partnership with BitPay in 2014.
According to Rachel Morowitz, SVP of Partner Processing at UATP, offering cryptocurrency as a form of payment is a must in today’s digital age. The present time is the best phase and the partnership between UATP and BitPay is quite exciting. Also, it will enable Vueling to increase its use of cryptocurrencies.
