Virtus.pro secure playoffs and eliminate FaZe after intense series

Virtus.pro will play in the Avicii Arena after defeating FaZe 2-1 and sending Finn “karrigan” Andersen‘s team home. The CIS squad pulled an incredible comeback on the T side of Ancient to bring the series all the way to three maps before closing on Overpass. Virtus.pro advance to the next stage with a 3-2 record featuring victories over MOUZ and Vitality and losses only to CIS rivals and Major favourites Gambit and Natus Vincere.

FaZe were unable to reach the playoffs of the PGL Major Stockholm despite showing a much better form in a LAN environment, losing to G2 and Copenhagen Flames in best-on-one matches in Legends Stage before being eliminated by Virtus.pro. Helvijs “broky” Saukants was the standout player in the series, delivering solid performances across all maps for FaZe and topping the scoreboards with a 1.22 rating — but departs the Major without his desired signature sticker.

The elimination series started on Inferno with a solid CT half from karrigan‘s FaZe. The dynamic defense was characterized by a standout performance from broky as the young AWPer shut down Virtus.pro round after round during a 10-5 half. The deficit was slowly reduced by Jame and Alexey “Qikert” Golubev as the Khazak rifler carried his great form into the second half but in the end, it was not enough. Despite Virtus.pro gaining momentum in the second half, Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer closed Inferno 16-13 with a 1v2 clutch.

Virtus.pro came into FaZe‘s map pick of Ancient facing elimination and had to make the most out of their CT side to give themselves a chance of survival. Despite FaZe‘s proficiency in the map, Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis made their T side uncomfortable, limiting their lead to 8-7. FaZe slowed down after winning the second pistol and setting a 13-8 scoreline, allowing Virtus.pro to drag seven consecutive rounds to take control of the map and edge it 16-14.

After their comeback on Ancient Virtus.pro came into Overpass with momentum. The CIS squad converted a second-round force buy which kickstarted a dominant eight-round winning streak to secure a T half victory. FaZe‘s timeout on round 10 seemed to turn things around for the European mix as they brought it all the way to a 7-8 scoreline at halftime. Switching to the CT side sealed the deal for Virtus.pro, winning the pistol round before extending the lead and eliminating FaZe on Overpass 16-11 for a 2-1 series.
