Valve releases 2021 Dota 2 Battle Pass, includes Spectre Arcana, Davion Dragon Knight Persona, and Nemestice event

Published

on

Valve has officially launched the 2021 Dota 2 Battle Pass and released details about the Summer Nemestice event, along with showing off the Arcana bundle for Spectre and a new persona for Dragon Knight.

The 2021 Battle Pass will cost $7.49 for players looking to start at level one, with level bundles available for purchase too. None of the proceeds for this Battle Pass will be put towards The International 10, which already has a more than $40 prize pool from the 2020 Battle Pass.

Players will need to raise their Battle Level to unlock rewards, either by participating in matches, completing objectives, or purchasing Battle Pass levels directly. These rewards include new Immortal Treasures, a Dragon Knight Persona, the Spectre Arcana, and more.

The Spectre Arcana has been something fans have wanted for almost a full year now, with the hero having won The International 10 Dota 2 Arcana Vote. It is based on a cursed set of armor, with a second unlockable style, custom animations, more than 500 new voice lines, and more.

You can unlock the Phantom Ascension alternate style by earning a Mega Kill streak in 100 different games, and it does not need to be done during the duration of the 2021 Battle Pass.

Dragon Knight is also getting a unique persona based on the Netflix anime, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood. The Davion-themed set will unlock over time, with a broken sword, helmet, and pauldrons all being rewarded as players level up the Battle Pass.

As for Nemestice, the event will have players collect “smoldering fragments from the crashing meteorites” that can boost player’s abilities and alters the base gameplay of Dota. There is also a Cavern Crawl event too! There will also be weekly quests to earn Battle Points and new Dota Assistant features added.

Like with previous Battle Pass content, players can expect to see things like Treasures, Chat Wheels, Seasonal Effects, Emoticons, Sprays, and River Vials as rewards in the coming months, too.

And this is not the only Battle Pass that will be released this year, with another one coming later that will feature more new content, according to Dota 2 everyman Wykrhm Reddy.

Immortals extend winning streak to four games against first-place 100 Thieves in LCS Summer Split week 8

Published

on

The playoff-bound Immortals snatched their fourth straight win today with a convincing victory over 100 Thieves, North America’s strongest team. Although Immortals remained three games under the .500 mark coming into today’s contest, the team has been playing like a top-half contender in the LCS over the last two weeks.

Immortals AD Carry Res was the difference maker in today’s contest, a role he exercised throughout the weekend for his team. His play on Draven has turned the champion into a signature pick after he posted a combined scoreline of 8/2/22 with Draven over Immortals’ last two games.

100 Thieves have cooled off substantially since their eight-game winning streak earlier in the summer, and the team lost five of their last nine games since the streak ended. Though it’s still fair to say that 100 Thieves is the strongest team in North America, they have plenty to work on before the postseason starts.

Should 100 Thieves continue to play at their current rate, they’ll undoubtedly reach the World Championship later this year. If the team wants to see their domestic accomplishments translate into international success, however, they’ll have to start winning games in which they’re strongly favored—and by wide margins.

Struggling in winnable games against teams like Immortals sets a low watermark for the squad seen as practically unbeatable just a few weeks ago. 100 Thieves sported a 1,000 gold lead at the 16-minute mark today but fell behind for good after a failed teamfight caused an out-of-position death from AD Carry FBI. He would finish the day with a scoreline of 1/6/3.

Next week, 100 Thieves will look to close out the regular season on a high note on their matchup against TSM. Should TSM defeat Cloud9 later today, they’ll be tied with 100 Thieves going into the Summer Split’s final three games.

ESEA lifts ban on nosraC, vek, J0LZ

Published

on

ESEA has lifted the bans of former Russian Canadians duo David “J0LZ” Jolin and Alex “vek” Voynov, as well as former Rebirth member Carson “nosraC” O’Reilly.

The three players were suspended from the platform in April following the release of a transcript of a leaked recording by Dust2.us, in which they were implicated in discussions about match-fixing in a conversation between Sebastian “retchy” Tropiano and Kevin “4pack” Przypasniak, both of whom remain banned on ESEA.

When reached for comment, an ESEA representative informed HLTV.org that nosraC‘s ban had expired at the recommendation of the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC), who had told ESEA to keep the ban in place “while the investigation was ongoing.”

The reason for allowing J0LZ and vek‘s bans to elapse was not able to be confirmed by the ESEA representative, but when contacted by HLTV.org, J0LZ stated that he had received an email from ESIC in which they recommended that his suspension also be lifted.

vek has had his suspension lifted by ESEA at the recommendation of ESIC

In the leaked recording, retchy and 4pack can be heard discussing the possibility of fixing two matches in ESEA MDL Season 35 North America, one of which was against Russian Canadians. Notably, the match in question was forfeited by Russian Canadians and never took place.

Following a back-and-forth between the pair, retchy states that vek had agreed to be “on radar” for the match, meaning that he would stream his live radar perspective to Rebirth in order to fix the outcome of rounds, and that J0LZ was “okay with it.”

nosraC is also briefly heard in the conversation saying that he was unsure if vek would agree to radar, which retchy refutes with the claim that vek had agreed on the condition of receiving a share of the profits from the betting websites used.

In February, prior to the contents of the recording being publicized, vek denied any involvement in the situation, saying in a statement that “there is no evidence of me personally agreeing to anything (because I am not involved at all). This person says my name, I do not know why. I cannot control whose name they say, and for what reason.”

Following the release of the transcript, ESEA suspended all five players mentioned in the recording by the recommendation of ESIC, who have been investigating match-fixing in ESEA MDL since September 2020.

At the end of March, ESIC Commissioner Ian Smith revealed via an interview that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had gotten involved in the ongoing investigation, which covered two groups: one that consisted of players who bet on themselves when the opportunity struck, and a second group that had been bribed or influenced by outside “betting syndicates” to fix matches in a more organised fashion.

In the same video, Mr. Smith stated that the first set of findings from the investigation, involving players from the first group mentioned above, should be made public “within the next ten days to two weeks.”

It has been nearly four months since that statement, with ESEA initially banning the five players implicated in the recording for two months, before subsequently extending the suspensions as they awaited the release of ESIC’s findings.

Although nosraC, J0LZ, and vek‘s bans have been lifted, 4pack and retchy‘s have not, with both of their bans set to elapse on August 1 should they not be extended further.

Legends of Runeterra Tahm Kench Soraka Deck Guide

Published

on

Top Games

In Legends of Runeterra, Tahm Kench / Soraka is an archetype with a focus on self-damage and healing. It has a unique play style compared to most decks, because of its reliance on an alternate win condition in its landmark, Star Spring.

If you’re a pacifist and enjoy winning the game without ever attacking your opponent, or prefer decks with unorthodox game plans in general, Tahm Kench / Soraka may be the deck for you. Here’s a guide to the archetype and how to play it, including key strategies, mulligans, and more.

You can find a sample decklist created by swimstrim on Mobalytics here.

The aim of this deck is to control the opponent’s board using Tahm Kench, use Soraka to sustain Tahm Kench’s health and provide card advantage, and win with Star Spring’s alternate win condition. Star Spring is a landmark that heals all your allies one at the end of each round. After doing so, if it has seen you heal a total of 22+ health on allies, it wins the game.

During your mulligan, you’ll always want to look for Star Spring, because it is your main win condition. Soraka and Tahm Kench are your second priority, and you can also keep cards depending on the matchup, such as Broadbacked Protector when facing aggro or Hush when facing Thresh / Nasus.

Use your early units like Boxtopus and a buffed Star Shepherd to control the enemy’s board and get rid of their units. Tahm Kench is another threat once he hits the board, with the ability to remove one enemy unit per turn.

Star Spring’s unique win condition makes Tahm Kench / Soraka play differently compared to the average deck. You’ll want to be reactive, attacking only when you need to, such as to trigger Soraka’s heal. The deck runs lots of Health buffs and heal spells, so save them to make sure your units stay on the board. If you lose your Tahm Kench or Soraka, especially if Tahm Kench is not leveled up yet, it may very well mean a lost game.

Always keep track of the counter on your Star Spring, in case you can use it to win at the end of the round with cards like Astral Protection or Soraka’s Wish. A win with Wish can often come out of nowhere and take your opponent by surprise, so take advantage of it fully.

For more deck guides, feel free to check out our All-In Fiora guide or our Nightfall Aggro guide. There are lots of decks that are viable in Legends of Runeterra right now, and almost every playstyle can find its place in the metagame. Don’t be afraid to try things out!

Genshin Impact Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual Quest Guide

Published

Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual is an extended questline in Genshin Impact that takes place in the new region, Inazuma. Throughout its four quests, the Traveler learns more about Inazuma and unlocks certain locations and content, so it’s a good idea for players to finish the questline as soon as possible.

This article explains each quest in the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual questline, and provides guides for completing all of them.

This is the first quest players will come across as they head from Ritou to the village of Konda. Speak to the mysterious shrine maiden next to the fox statue to begin the quest. You’ll need to investigate the strange things happening in Konda Village, discover its secret, and obtain the key to the well. Then, you’ll descend into the well to carry out the purifying ritual. Watch the video for a walkthrough of the quest:

In the next quest, the player must investigate an abandoned shrine, learn the sacred words, and obtain a ward to carry out another cleansing ritual. You’ll obtain the Memento Lens during this quest, which is an intriguing gadget that can be used to see the memories of small kitsune statues around Inazuma. It’s also used to open the gate to the underground in Araumi. Read our guide for a walkthrough of this quest.

Now that the player knows how to complete the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual, they’re simply asked to carry out the ritual three times with no other prompts. The three locations where you’re asked to complete the ritual are Chinju Forest, the Kamisato Estate, and Araumi. Watch the video below for a walkthrough of the quest.

The final stage of the questline requires the player to defeat a special boss. You’ll need to go to Mt. Yougou and defeat the “Miasmic Tumor” in an area affected by Balethunder. Use Electrograna to protect yourself from the thunder, and solve the puzzles when they appear to knock down the Miasmic Tumor. After completing this final quest, you’ll receive the Mask of Memories, which gives you the recipe to forge the Hakushin Ring, a 4-star catalyst weapon. Watch the video below for a walkthrough of this quest.

The Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual is one of the most extensive questlines in Genshin Impact so far. It serves as an introduction to Narukami Island of Inazuma, like the “In the Mountains” quest does for Dragonspine. Be sure to also check out our guides for The Ritou Road and Sakura Arborism as you explore Inazuma.
