V4 Future Sports Festival returns with studio LAN event

Published

on

V4 Future Sports Festival will make its comeback in 2021 after a one-year hiatus following its first two events in 2018 and 2019 with a ~$380,000 tournament that will feature LAN finals, played in Budapest on November 14-21.

Several qualifiers for different countries and regions will be set up between August 14 and September 5, followed by an online league on September 15-October 7 that will grant four teams a ticket to the LAN event.

The V4 LAN finals will take place in November in a studio environment

There will be six qualifiers in total, giving out eight spots at the online league. Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic/Slovakia and Europe will each get one spot, while two teams per qualifier will make it through in Southern Europe (Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Bosnia) and Eastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria and Macedonia).

The eight sides that prevail in the initial qualifiers will then play a double elimination best-of-three online league, with the top four advancing to the LAN event.

Other than the four teams from the online league, the 12-team LAN will also feature four teams recommended and invited by the V4 countries’ national esports federations based on results and achievements in their respective countries, as well as four invites that have yet to be announced.

KT Rolster to represent Korea at the Wild Rift World Championship 2021

Published

on

KT Rolster won the League of Legends: Wild Rift Champions Korea (WCK) today after a convincing 4-0 victory over Break Frame Gaming in the finals, earning themselves a spot at the Wild Rift World Championship 2021.

The organization, which also competes in the LCK, may not have qualified for the League of Legends World Championship but will compete on the world stage in the mobile game. The inaugural Wild Rift World Championship 2021 will happen later this year with 10 teams from around the globe. KT Rolster will be the sole Korean team in the event.

The WCK took place at the LoL Park in Seoul, South Korea, the same venue used for the LCK. Eight teams—three invitees and five qualified teams—battled for a spot at the World Championship and a share of the 80,000,000 South Korean won (approximately $67,680) prize pool.

KT Rolster cruised through the event and didn’t lose a single game. They placed first in their group after defeating Break Frame Gaming, Let’s Go to Mars, and Baby is 87 to advance to the playoffs, where they went up against T1. They took down T1 3-0 to set up a finals clash against Brake Frame Gaming, whom they also thrashed in back-to-back games, taking the series with a score of 4-0.

KT Rolster will have high expectations on their shoulders as they head to the first World Championship for Wild Rift. South Korea has been an immensely successful region in League on PC’s World Championships. Teams from the country have won it six times since its inception in 2013.

Bad News Bears, paiN, TeamOne, GODSENT qualify for IEM Fall NA

Published

on

After the first day of the IEM Fall North America closed qualifier, Bad News Bears, paiN, TeamOne, and GODSENT have all advanced to the main event after winning their initial matches. As a result of six teams moving on from the eight team closed qualifier, the simple double-elimination bracket only consists of six games, four of which took place on Saturday.

The remaining two matches, which constitute the lower bracket, are set to take place on Sunday, where the winners of ATK vs. RBG and Triumph vs. Strife will secure the final two spots at IEM Fall NA.

In the first set of matches, Bad News Bears took on South African side ATK, who made it through the second open qualifier. On the first map of Nuke, loan player Paytyn “junior” Johnson completely dominated, with 35 kills and a 2.02 rating, pushing Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman‘s side to a 16-10 win. Inferno was much of the same, as a strong T-side allowed the American team to push their way into IEM Fall.

Bad News Bears still have a chance to qualify for the Major

paiN won their series in a similar fashion, putting up strong Terrorist sides and taking both maps of Inferno and Nuke without too much resistance. Wesley “hardzao” Lopes paved the way for the Brazilian side over the best-of-three, posting a 1.59 rating on Inferno.

Like both previous matches, Nuke was featured in the face off between GODSENT and Strife. The Brazilian project, who were recently reported to be signing Alan “AlaNDieg0R” Riveros as an analyst, took large leads early on in both maps. Strife had trouble stringing many rounds together, and ultimately fell to the power duo of João “felps” Vasconcellos and Epitacio “TACO” de Melo.

The first map between TeamOne and Triumph was more interesting than the score might show, as the longest-standing member of Triumph, Brendan “Bwills” Williams, put up a huge performance despite his team’s loss. The American secured 26 frags, 115 ADR, and a 1.59 rating.

Over the whole series though, it was Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa who stepped up big time for the Brazilian side, allowing them to take both maps without dropping more than 10 rounds each.

The main event of IEM Fall North America is set to begin on October 5, and will be played online. The twelve teams will be split into two groups of six which feed into a four team playoff bracket. Pursuant to Valve’s rules, the event will award RMR points to the top five teams of the tournament.

What is The Old Gym in NBA 2K22 Next Gen?

The Old Gym has quickly become one of the most well-received new features in NBA 2K22 due to its quick matchmaking times and no-squads requirement.

For those looking to get some more relaxed 3v3 park games in, here’s everything you need to know about The Old Gym in NBA 2K22 MyCareer on Next Gen.

As touched on earlier, The Old Gym is a new location where solo players can queue up to be instantly paired with five other randoms in an unranked 3v3 park game.

The main catch is that unlike the park courts that claim to restrict squads by having no dedicated squad spots, The Old Gym enforces the rule entirely, by not allowing squads into the building.

As such, this feature has quickly become the go-to move for lone wolves, or those looking to score some quick MVP Points and VC.

The Old Gym quest

Early on in NBA 2K22 MyCareer on Next Gen, players are given a Season 1 quest from Vlad the Impaler, inviting them to win five 3v3 games in The Old Gym. In exchange, players who complete the challenge will be given 1,000 MVP Points, 1,500 VC, Season Level XP, and an Elite Player Banner for their troubles.

Overall, if you’re often in the City by yourself, or are simply looking to get a quick run in solo, The Old Gym definitely sounds like the move.

Meanwhile, those with a squad of three can simply stick to playing in the park or 3v3 Pro-Am.
