We knew that one game was dropping onto Game Pass today – the hack-and-slashy Nobody Saves the World (Console, Cloud and PC) from Guacamelee devs Drinkbox Studios – but we had no idea that there would be a second. And not any old second, as this is the Xbox bow for perennial PlayStation exclusive, Danganronpa.
Today sees the launch of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition (Console and PC), and hopefully it signals the arrival of the rest of the series.
Let’s start with Nobody Saves the World, as it’s a game that deserves the spotlight. On the face of it, this is a conventional Zelda-like action adventure. You are traveling the world in search of dungeons to clear, swinging your sword about as you do so. But what makes Nobody Saves the World unique is the ability to shapeshift, allowing you to switch to a Rat, Horse, Warrior or Dragon among many, many others. Each has their own move set and progression track, so you can level them up to be overpowered versions of themselves.
We’ve sunk dozens of hours into this ourselves and have a glowing review ready to go very soon. Pick it up and play it if you have the chance: it’s as fun and deep as a swimming pool ball-pit.
For many, the highlight will be Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition. This is a special edition of the PlayStation hit, which arrived way back in the PS4 era. If you haven’t played it before, it’s an odd one to describe: you are Makoto Naegi, one of several children enrolled in a school that’s incredibly secretive and overseen by a malevolent bear called Monokuma. One of your class is murdered, and through a combination of investigation and interrogation, you accuse one of your classmates of the crime in what can only be described as a combination of game show and Russian Roulette. Yeah, it’s very, very Japanese.
For those who have played it before, this hosts a Gallery in which players can view and replay character events, dialogue, and sprites. There’s also an Ultimate Gallery that features promotional illustrations and character sheets from the game’s original artbook. A review is incoming.
There’s more to come in January too though. On January 20th Game Pass gives us Pupperazzi (Console and PC), Windjammers 2 (Console and PC), Rainbow Six Extraction (Console and PC), Rainbow Six Siege (Console and PC) and the Hitman Trilogy (Console and PC).
